I like it. Here are my critiques.

1. It's a bit boxy for me, therefore it's not as dynamic.
2. Main page seems a bit busy. Maybe create some heirarchy or focal points.
3. I think the menu on the bottom left needs some breathing space. My eyes feels trapped in the box. Maybe add some white/negative space or whatnot.

Other than that... so far so good. Keep up the good work. /emoticons/happy.gif

Graphic design is my obsession and digital abstract art stimulates my mind.

Greco,

First off, you've got a great looking portfolio with some very solid work! The design machine identity package is so nice!!!

I agree with CODE77's crit...
Things are a bit boxy and there is a big lack of heiarchy throughout the site. There's no resting place for the eyes, everything is taking the same level of importance...which in-turn results in nothing appearing important. Your navigation gets lost in all the 'stuff' going on. What should the homepage say? What doesn't need to be on the homepage? You have a solid base going with a nice grid, I just think it would benifit from a little cleanup.

The same comments would apply to your portfolio sections as well. Your company logo, the yellow grecodesign.com banner and the image to the left are all fighting for attention and taking away from the actual portfolio piece on display. You have some outstanding work and I hate to see it subdued by the surrounding site graphics.

All in all it's a good start. With a little cleanup and simplification, it could be a great site!

boxy.... yes agree with above to about visual heiarchy

I think the site could be tighter virtically....you have some important info below the fold....

I do love the CMKY boxs

I don't really care for the site... or the work, actually. I think it's interesting that you're a design 'team' because it looks like everything was designed by one person.

I must agree with a couple of comments about the home or front page of the site that is too boxy and there being no where for the eye to rest easily upon.

After clicking on through the Marks & Logos page however I was most impressed in what I found. This site has got most of its great potential covered up by a clumsy looking home page.

Again, I also found that all links when clicked through had the same pleasing and professional look about them. There is great potential in this site.

My advise would be to get rid of that home page, consentrate on what works well and incorporate some JavaScript or CSS array in your navigation or where the collesium image is, and have that highlight the many and
myriad possibilities that may present itself to a potential
client. In other words use the same page layout that you
use in the linked pages as your home page.

It doesn't matter what you're new at, you'll always be blinded by choice rather than good advice.

Sorry... I haven't been around much to reply. So, here goes...

If saying I don't care for design, when a person asks specifically for a critique, is considered rude, then the whole world has gone commie. Ha. In my attempt to tersely point out that the design of the site and the featured work looks amateurish, I apparently faltered (particularly in assuming an 'I don't like it because it looks like one person did everything' was enough of an opinion).

That said, here are some comments that may be considered more constructive:

1) Although I am attracted to the general color scheme of the site, the index does not immediately say that design is the service of the company. It could as easily be a showcase for software, or financial advice, or another widget.

2) A lot of the site's design techniques seem gimmicky, cop-out-ish, or mediocre. Items that aid this impression include:
a) using clip art or things that could be mistaken for clip art (how investment-banking of you),
b) (over)using the latest alternative character, which in this case is the greater-than symbol,
c) trying to emphasize everything by using bold, italic, and reverse text
d) not being consistent with margins, etc.

3) These things are apparent in the work as well. The designers seem reliant on:
a) standard (whether conscious or not) palette across many clients
b) swooshes and other abstract forms that don't require technical accuracy (see Greco, Mattone Verde, and J. Milizia 2 logos)
c) 'primitive' illustration style to evade the requirement of technical accuracy (see the Greco, J. Milizia 2, Pit Stop!, and Kibernetic Art logos)
d) unsophisticated Photoshop filters (see Il Messaggero - Auto and Ufficio Legale Tributario logos)
e) outdated or alternative fonts that soon will be outdated (see Gruppo Portatili, Villa Paradiso, J. Milizia 2, Microforum Platinum, and Il Messaggero - Auto)

In closing, I will say: this work is not all bad or without potential (I think Design Machine is very nice, as a matter of fact), but it looks a lot like a portfolio constructed as a final art-school project.

I stand by my opinion.

the website looks good to me , i know i am only a student and my graphic design skills/experience are limitted. But here is my suggestions.
I like the whole boxy theme, it's not that the site being boxy is a bad thing, it just seems like there are too many boxes. they are all slightly different and seem to be fighting for attention. the site is very colorful, everyone likes a colorfull website. i think the main problem is that on a low resolution you have to scroll to see the bottom of the middle box, if you are gonna' have the boxes try to make it so all the boxes fit in view. its a good solid design, better than what i can do, but listen to perm, case and april. they will help you a lot.

Greco Design welcome to the forum.

April that was a heavy critique but none the less honest so I respect that.

Greco Design to add I think you need to use more HTML and less images to build a better site. Right now you seem to be relying heavily on images and it just takes long to load and I have a direct connection the the company router using a T1 line.

Aside from that I think you just need to minimize the usuage of diffrent fonts, use a standard font without effects. As you stick around with us you'll pick up on what makes consistent and good design.

Your work is pretty good and you have alot of potential so stick around. Critiques are good for learning and nothing else, sometimes they are just opinions as I've even gotten some crazy critiques that make absolutly no sense at all I'm speaking from experience.

Many thanks to all! Thank you to share with me your experience and your suggestions.
I want to restyle my site, but it's not easy and more of our time is for our works... but I hope to suggest new solutions. First to all a new home page.
If you want submit to me an example (like a pict on our thread)... YOU ARE WELCOME ;P.
I want to find a bit of time to reply because I don't agree totally with April...

Thanks and my compliments for your works. I was surprised... with compliments Code 77, Casey and Allan!

Corporate design link reveals a couple of print designs that look really nice, as commented above. Excellent.

benjo is right you need to use html text not image text.

Your own logo reminds me of clipart - anyway something that comes with Adobe. It's not up to the standard of some of the other work.
