Is Corel KnockOut any good or is it about the same and using the magic wand tool in photoshop and deleting out the background of an image?

In the new photoshop user there's a cool article on cutting whisps of hair out of a picture, knockout automates some things you can easily do in ps on your own...

Knockout was (is?) a standard high end masking tool for film at one time. It does do some great stuff the last time I looked. As for wisps, etc., I think a lot of people try PShop's own 'Extract Image' but quickly become frustrated with it's quirks. Actually, it's fairly powerful once you get the hang of things, and once you know how to speed up mask cleanups. The biggest thing to remember is to always use Extract on a COPY of your target, and then transfer the resultant mask to the original layer as a layer mask (it's easy-- ctrl-clk on the newly masked layer, click on the target original, and then click on the Add Layer Mask icon, and delete the new layer.)
When you combine things like Dust and Scratches, and level tweaks with the resulting mask, often the actual physical touchups are quite small and manageable.

its better than photoshops wand tool, but i've found it still requires about 2-3 minutes of touch-ups around the edges after you use it... even though it does shave off some time, i'm not too sure if it was worth the investment.
