I am interest in computer graphics and animation or 3d gaming which popular nowadays( PS2 games expecially). But I didn't have any knowledge about this kind of things. Can some one tell me what basic knowledge I should have to develop 3d graphic using computer?? For example, some one need to know high-level programming language such as C++ or Java to do programming stuff...may be I should just search through search engine but I not quiet understand all the term they use. So if sm 1 who reply me plez use a very simple sentences which suitable for a computer graphic dummy like me...Thanx http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/blink.gif http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/blink.gif

Hey lily82, Welcome to the GDF first of all!

Now, I'm no expert on 3d but i am a hobbyist and know a little bit, so i hope i can help steer you in the right direction. First of all check out this forum for a variety of 3d information CGtalk (http://www.cgtalk.com) Check out the galleries for inspiration.

In my opinion you have to first consider what it is you actually want to learn. Modeling, animation, game design, programming etc. The big 2 programs the industry uses is 3DStudiomax and Alias Maya. Both programs are the standard in the 3d industry, these programs are able to do various things like modeling, animation, lighting etc. However these programs are very expensive, but worth learning if you can grasp these programs. there are also other programs like Houdini, Cinema4d as well. If you are considering taking courses, find courses that cover these programs but decide on one that you want to learn to its fullest potential. From what i know 3dstudiomax is mainly used for the gaming industry and Maya for movies, however they are still capable of doing one or the other.

Also what you can do is download the demo versions of these programs to get familiar with them, do some tutorials and see which program suits your needs better. I would recommend to learn basic 3d concepts and theory so that you have a better knowledge of how these programs work.

anyway, check out the other forum i mentioned i'm sure they will be able to help you even more.

You could also buy Visual Studio and get a book on C# if you're getting into the logic end of stuff.
