this is my list of milestones in the history of production technology (1985-2005 only), i.e. i only would like the remarkable breakthoughs and am focusing on pre-press. is this list ok? what woudl you take out or add? many thanks.

1985 – Aldus Corp. develops PageMaker (company later acquired by Adobe)
1985 – Adobe introduces Postscript Page description language
1985 – Apple adapts PC into its printers
1985 – Low – cost laser printer is introduced
1986 – Intel processor introduced
1986 – Compact disc (CD) introduced
1987 – First colour Macs come out
1987 – Linotype and IBM follow suite, making it the industry standard
1987 – Adobe Illustrator launched
1988 – Quark Express introduced
1989 – Sony begins working on the first recordable CD
1990 – Adobe Photoshop launched
1990 – Windows 3 released by Microsoft
1991 – TrueType format and System 7 introduced by Apple
1991 – World Wide Web launches
1992 – Tim Berners-Lee of CERN develops software for the World Wide Web (WWW)
1992 – Automatic picture replacement becomes available
1993 – International Colour Consortium (ICC) established to standardize colour mgt
1993 – First digital presses, the indigo E-Print 1000, and Xeikon’s DCP-1 launched
1993 – Intel introduces the 80 MHZ Pentium chip
1993 – Motorola ships the first 80 MHZ Power PC 601 chip
1994 – First PowerPC Macs launched
1994 – Aldus and Adobe merge
1994 – Netscape Navigator launched by Mosaic Communications
1995 – Windows 95 released
1996 – Internet Explorer released by Microsoft
1997 – Apple launches Mac OS 8
1998 – Intel releases the 350 MHZ and 400 MHZ Pentium II processors
1998 – Steve Jobs introduces the Apple iMac

1986 - Networked Picture Systems, Inc. signs up as Pantone's first software licensee for the PC platform.
1987 - LaserWare, Inc. signs up as Pantone's first software licensee for the Macintosh platform.

1988 - The worldwide first indrum-Postscript imagesetter is released.
(I think the Linotronic 100 was the worlds first postscript imagsetter - I had one. Most expensive boat anchor I ever owned. I think it was introduced in '84 though.Imagesetters are pretty darned important.)

1993 - Photoshop 2.51 is released (First working PC version)
1994 - Photoshop 3.0 introduces 'LAYERS'
