so i got my new breif today, and it includes a lot of photography. we have to take loads of photographs for a two page spread magazine article. only problem, is that i've missed all my photography lessons so far (such a dippoo!).
anyone good at photography? give me some good technique ideas please! how to get good and unusual looking photographs i can use for this double page spread .
just let you know, the article theme will be on spies/surveillance/espionage.
oh and, some one please help me decide, Nikon D70 or the Cannon Digital Rebel!

I think with those two camera's it a case of six of one, half a dozen of the other!?! They're both very good camera's, so it's just a case of personal preference... Go into a store and try them both out. Which one feels the best?
For me, i'd personally choose the Canon... But that's purely because my old SLR was a Canon and i loved it! Both companies make superb camera's though... ;)
As for techniques... Some nice Macro shots of circuit boards would be cool i think, or photo's of CCTV camera's. Maybe a bit too obvious, but it's a start! /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/thumbsup.gif

I'm no expert as far as photography, but there are some good photography forums out there that might be able to offer some specific advice... I'm not sure what any of the urls are, but I'm sure you can find them with a google search.

this is a really in depth article on why to choose a canon over a nikon.
photonotes.org/articles/why-canon/ (http://photonotes.org/articles/why-canon/)
I have the rebel and love it. one feature the nikon has which i wish mine did was the ability to digitaly divide the view finder into thirds so you can compose using the 'rule of thirds' but no big deal really.
as far as shots go, i would think maybe something from up high, as if it was a camera hidden somewhere looking down onto someone. that might peak the paranoid interest in all of us ;)

Macro is basically close up photography. Most camera's have a Macro setting, but you can also buy Macro lenses which give far better results.

Wr, I consider this site here www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond70/ (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond70/) to be the bible of all digital cameras.
he does tests and cmparisons. you shoudl be able to read up on the differences between the two cameras since they are simillar.

yeah ditto, i've been eyeing the rebel for awhile now.

One thing that really sold me on the rebel besides price and it's really light weight for it's class was now they make it in all black. I really hated the silver and black, thought it looked cheap but the all black is so pro looking.
my photography tutor said that i should get the nikon. she goes the lenses can be bought for cheap second hand and the build is also good. says that most proffesionals use nikons more than any other make. ive asked her to look up for me though, just going to wait and see what she thinks now.
oh, i went to photography class today!
camera techniques anyone!?

lol!
I think build quality has always been better on Nikon's, but as for that being what Pro's use..... Utter crap! You have to weigh it up. They are much stronger, but they are also much heavier. For some people, like 1984, myself and most landscape photographers, weight is an issue.
Why would you be able to get second hand Nikon lenses and not Canon!?!
Do plenty of research, compare spec sheets etc.
Try both camera's in-store, make your own choice as your the one who'll be stuck with it! ;)
