After spending 6 long and tiring months shamelessly plugging myself to many companies and applying for so many jobs I can't count, I finally got a new job. But it's not a Graphic Design position. As much as I love graphic design, I'm not a competitive enough person to survive in this industry. I just don't have that sort of attitude, but I also can't bear to be in a deadend job where I'm paid crap and treated like a moron (my current job by the way).
So I'm now going to be Science Communication Co-ordinator (love the name huh?!!) for a university in the north of england. I'm basically going to be organising science activities for kids to come into the university or to be run in schools, to try to encourage them to take up science as a career. I'm very excited as it sounds like a cool job, and I've worked for the university before, when I studied there. So I start in 5 weeks.
I hope I'm still allowed to hang out here - you guys are fun! And I promise never to commit the cardinal sins of the non-Graphic Designer. Never Comic Sans, always watch my aspect ratio and never ask if I can have my photos from my website on my business card. I will remember all!
So, goodbye graphic design - I learned a lot, still love ya and am sorry to be loosing my Graphic Designer status (cos, quite frankly, it's a cool sounding job title!).

Aw, congrats WW, but we'll always consider you a graphic designer at heart. Hope you'll still swing by the boards from time to time!!!

Thanks Morea, I am a bit sad, but also quite excited. And very pleased that I'm allowed to still hang out!
I know there are a lot of people in worse situations than me, who have been looking for work longer, and are in sh!ttier positions, but I guess I'm not as strong - I just needed to get out of here before I go loopy. That, and being turned down for so many jobs gives your self-confidence a knock too!

I'm in a similar postion too. Right now i can still do my freelancing but it's just too many hours out of my personal time so i could either stick it out here where i work in the medical industry and continue in Operations or make the giant leap into GD, take a paycut and bite the bullet. Right now with the baby coming soon, i'll most likely stick around where i am. MAybe a GD position will open up eventually!
goodluck to you WW, not only will you alwys be a GDF family member, but also A Rocker at heart!
I hope this new job brings new adventures and hapiness. Keep us posted and drop by often!

Hehe! Thanks Tyger, I'm hoping I will be able to drop by fairly often, although it depends - you know what new employers are like! I'll have to be on my best behaviour for a few weeks!
As for the sandwich - how come we GDF ladies always have sandwiches but no GDF male sandwiches? I'd like to see Tyger and Neuro reconcile their differences! Maybe with an alien in there too? Or maybe a Magnus?

Good for you WW...you can still do freelance stuff on the side anyway.
I am serving my time in hell on earth...at the job I am currently employed at.

Hehe Tyger! I think that's an escape! We'd make it a triple decker and get a few more GDF males in there for seasoning!
Thanks Magnus - I'm already planning some wedding invites and a leaflet for a friend, so I'm hoping to keep up my GD skills. And I might get a chance with the new job to do a bit of stuff.

Yes, congratulations Wonder Woman ... I think your forum name was destined for great things to happen to you. Let us all hope that your new job is as 'cool' as you're expecting. Guess the helicopter jump is on a back burner then?

Thanks Ulysses - yeah, the helicopter-parachute-flying-photographing thing has gone a bit haywire.
Still have 5 weeks to work, 2 of which I'll be on holiday, but I think I'm a pain in the a$$ to work with at the moment, being so excited!
