Any number of plug-ins are available for almost any software.
Try a google for barcode plug-in and add the name of the software you have (Quark, Illustrator, InD, Pagemaker, Word, Excel...etc.)

Or check www.powerxchange.com.

PD is a grande format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing

are you needed to get the actual REAL bar code and number for a product or its just incorporated in a design you are working on?

I have the numbers, I need to create a bar code with those digits and place it in the artwork. I did a search and I found two barcode production software so far. One is Azalea and the other is Peninsula, so I'll make my decision and get one of those. Sometimes they sell you a bar code software but just to make labels, and I need to place the bar code in the artwork, not just a label.
Thanks anyway for your answers.

A good vector/raster barcode utility has been standard issue with CorelDraw for years now.

I had to get a barcode done for us when we started out second publication. I did a search online and came up with a company called Filmmasters. www.filmmasters.com (http://www.filmmasters.com)

They charged me, err..my boss... $19.00 for the barcode, emailed me an EPS file. Might just be cheaper for you than buying software if its not something you're gonna be doing frequently. If interested, they have an 800# on their website you can contact them with. I did this 3 years ago, so prices may have jumped since. Worth checkin out tho.

Good luck /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/thumbsup.gif

If you are on a Mac, a great one to use is Bar Code Pro by SNX. It is available for 9 and OS X. I have used it for a while now. There website is www.snx.com. You can export the files as EPS's.

I'm on PC and we need a lot of bar codes for packaging, we've been using them more and more, I used to order them with Fine Line Tech, they charge $25 per bar code and deliver them by e-mail in Illustrator EPS. I just found this Peninsula Bar Code Software, they are based on UK, I just bought it and I got it already by e-mail, it's working great, and it cost only around $61 USD. Good for us! so I'm using it already.

You could have saved yourself some money by using a font instead. There are several free barcode fonts available. We use one here at the hospital. It's called: Free3of9.TTF

We also use Bar Code Pro version 3.53, and I am on a PC. It is simple and works great. However, the software will cost you $280.

You can use a bar code free font to create a scannable bar code?
