Grr... I guess I can't quit cuz i got bills to pay but I HATE moronic clients.

Story:

I had a contract to make a logo for a casino. "Spare no expense" kinda place. They wanted a western - old fashioned gamey elegant logo...so...I made asimple logo with somefilligrees and lettering with a little fun character and stuff. It 's fairly simple.
http://ih2.com/images/sp.jpg

So they gave it to the "ARCHITECT" and lo - the architect must be some graphics guru or something because he said it was too complex to make into signage (just the black and white!) - plus he wanted a vertical AND horizontal layout...so. After all the changes they asked for - it's now down to JUST THE FONT and it looks STOOOOOPID!

http://ih2.com/images/crap.jpg

I told them that i didn't want anything to do with it anymore and I would no longer want to be associated with the logo if they did that.

I don't know how to tell them that what they've asked for completely destroys any character or logoishness of it without blowing a gasket and looking like an idiot.

gr....

Tell them what you just wrote. Maybe even pull up a few pics of other fancy logos so they can see it can go on signage.

Key, I would love to make a sign out of your first logo.
It would be so cool man.
Ain't nothin there that can't be done and lots of different ways to go.
The Ahkitect is full of crap.

That's what I thought too...If they could do it in 1850 I think any competent sign guy could do it now. Could make it (the B&W) outta virtually anything!

Hey, Keyare, you beat me too it, I was going to post the same thing, except mine involves dealing with 3 different 'decision makers' and I originally made them what they wanted 'futuristic logo' but upon review by the owner, they just wanted a different 'version' of there original logo......omg.....it looks like utter sh!t....anyways, yeah it sucks, were in the same boat....im basically stepping away from ever having my name on it.....and thats been happening alot lately : (

The green one is excellent ..... top shelf, imo

.. some people wouldn't know excellence if it bit them.

Echo that Atom. That green is a polished piece of work. What that arch dick has done is something you'd slap on the lid of a margarine tub!

I can easily see the green logo adorning the livery of any vehicles and displays, and the brown one for business cards, letterheads and the like.

It doesn't matter what you're new at, you'll always be blinded by choice rather than good advice.

Beware of comapnies that have multiple 'decision makers', you will end up pulling you hair out. I went htrough the same thing with a web design for a church. I had no less than seven department heads all wanting something different. I eneded up going pretty much blad (well felt like it after so much screaming). Now i make it clear that all changes will come through one person and one person only (let them duke it out between themselves).

I am working on a farily large web site right now and the company is i am working with is wonderful. I have one contact to deal with for changes and modifications, she deals with the others at the company and so far it is a very smooth project. I hate hearing that a so called professional told them that your logo was too complex, it is a great piece of work, he is probaably afraid that your work would overshadow his (LOL). I ahve seenthe type before (many, many, many times).

I just looked at the full color logo AGAIN here that you did Keyare - these ppl are IDIOTS! I mean this logo is awesome. They TOTALLY took out the 'western - old fashioned gamey elegance' that they wanted so WTF?? Some ppl just don't appreciate great design! :o)

I don't know ANYTHING about doing vinyl signs...but I just did a sign for my bossman that he had done in vinyl, for a resteraunt in Panama that he has and it was full color and had a good bit of art on it in addition to the text. He had it done at some 'Po Dunk' place here in Savannah that he gets alotta sh!t printed from...and brought it to show me and it looked great...so...I dunno why they can't do even just the B/W one - the original awesome logo...?? I know that with vinyl things can't be too complex but all of your elements in the original logo are simple enough aren't they? I dunno...just curious :o)

I would be pissed about all those changes too tho...punks...ugh! :o)

(notice I smile after everything I say?? haha)

Keyare I know this is off subject but what are you saving your images as? Everytime I open your threads in Safari they crash. Sucks too cause I really love your work.

Oh by the way, that seems like what Allen said... ENVY from the architech. Maybe he feels like your outshining him cause we all know that excuse is full of BS.

I have the same problem as Benjo. Safari crashes with Key's images.

D-Zine-

Except for the gradient I could do that green sign in vinyl. I'd have to get a print made up for the grade (or have one of our painters airbrush it) but could still do it all.

I'd rather do it in 3-D lit can letters, white sides, green acrylic top with metal scroll work and aluminum sign face.
Or have it carved 3D in Wood or Sign Foam and hand painted.
So many options, so few opportunities.
>sigh<

LOL @ PD! haha man I wanna see some of your signs!! LOL!

But yeah...that's what I was thinking...that the log COULD be done in vinyl..that guy is fulla crap! I also think maybe the architect felt 'outshined' ...what a %$#&! :o)

Here's my bit. Why hire us, if they want it cheapened to the point that they can do it, or think they can do it better. What purpose are we serving? I have a client that I did a cd package for...and he wanted to combine two other people's ideas into it...it was soooo ugly...so much so that I refused to have my name attached to it.

bleh!
