i, personally, feel that template sites are designed for people who don't want to spend the money on graphic and web designers. this is taking jobs away from our industry, and encouraging an already difficult climate.

i am, however a firm believer in 'use whatever works for you'. saying that, if 'whatever works' for you is the same ugly piece of garbage template that the guy down the road uses...no, i don't mean to be harsh. it's true though.

by using templates you're buying off the rack from walmart, rather than having something custom tailored to suit you. it's even worse if someone calling themselves a designer passes it off as good design, imho. imagine going in to pick up your 'custom tailored' suit, only to find that it was bought off the rack from the mall?

it's hardly worth it as an individual to do that, but as a designer...it's only hurting your career & reputation. if you can't code for the web, hire someone who can.

my two cents.

not to mention that if you use one of these templates... someone else might also being using it. This could really hurt your reputation as a designer if someone finds out. A company using templates is fine in my mind... but a designer.. not too sure about that. I wouldn't want to pay a designer to use a template.. i could do it myself (if i wasn't a designer)
