I have a 28 newsletter that a customer designed in quark 5. Somehow they have a automatic page numbering option on. Lets say I delete pages 5 and 6, but in the document palete it will keep the pages listed as 1,2,3,4,7,8..... then if I go to print pages 1-5, it says page five cant be found. Now lets say I add 2 pages between 4 and 5. the doucument palete says 1,2,3,4,4,5,5,6,......also the 'go to' page menu at the bottom left of the screen has * next to all the page numbers. I have looked everywhere for some kind of option to turn off but I can find anything.

How can I fix this.

Y'know, I don't know how to fix it - but my page numbering in Quark 5 NEVER works right and I have given up. I manually type it rather than deal with Quark's screw-ups.

when it comes to certain clients, remind yourself:

i figured out how to stop quark from adding the page numbers into the document but I cant fix the document pallete. Also when I make a PDF of the entire document and open in acrobat, the page numbers are screwed up in the dialog boxes but not on the actual document.

hope this makes sense.

If you go to the text box in the master file where the numbers appear you will see they have entered a code, just delete it.

i did that, that is how i got the numbering off the actual document. What i am having issues with is the numbering in the applications. If you open up the document layout palete in quark, you know how each page icon has the page number under the icon? well becuase this document has gone thru some many page adds/deletes, the number are worng. they go 1,2,8,9,20,21,22,16,15,22,23,24,25,16,17,18,19,6,7 ,8,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18. They all have an * next to the number. For example: If I try to add 2 pages at the beginning of the document, in the layout palete, those two new pages are 1 and 2, but the actual pages 3 and 4 are still named 1* and 2* in the palete. so it screws up everything when I try to print specific pages, because it see a few as the same number.

Did I explain it any better?

(make a copy of the doc, don't try this on the original)

did you try deleting the old text box and then creating a new one with the auto page code...

and make sure to save the doc before making the new auto-page text box..

I notice when writing some of the applescript for Quark things need to be done in a certain order or Quark will not recognize commands...

if you did try this then I am out of suggestions

Does it have anything to do with sections, Look into that... Under Page>Sections, I think that when you have * next to the numbers they may be part of sections...

I gonna look into that... hold on!

<#> is the code I use in the master pages to get the page numbering to work, then you can go to the outlined page number with the * by it in your document layout pallet click on that page and check and see under PAGE>Section if you have Section Start checked if you do then just go to each page and check to make sure you don't have that box checked and that should take care of it...

Let me know

The first page you want numbered should use the master page you set up with the <#> and have the same looking page number as the rest in your doc layout pallet except for a * next to it, if the page number in the doc layout pallet is outlined then you have the section start turned on and all of the pages after that will start with whatever number is set in the PAGE>Section menu...

Does that make any sence at all /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/blink.gif

'*' by a page numebr definitely means a section has been created. If it's a big problem, just go in a nd delete all the sections.
