Is anyone else running OS X 10.3.8 having problems with icons displaying incorrectly with files. My PDFs sometimes have a really weird icon with them, EPS files created out of Illustrator also occasionally look squirrely. The strange thing is that the icons don't affect the program that the file is linked to. Even tghough the PDF icons look weird they still launch acrobat when double clicked and the Illustrator EPS files still launch Illustrator.

Is anyone else having this problem and do you know how to fix it?

nope... did you do a search on Apple.com for this issue?

I am running 10.3.8 on 4 machines without any troubles. Did you do a Repair Disk Permisions under Disk Utility? That may solve your problem.

You might also try leaving the machine on overnight without letting it sleep so it can run all it's diagnostics and Unix utilities. BUT some of those are only run on certain days of the month. You might try OnyX... Be careful with it because you can reset init's with it... It dumps caches and temp files and rebuilds the database, kinda like rebuilding the desktop.

I found something that fixed my problem, a free program called RebuildDesktopX. But to answer y'all's quesitons: I did search on Apple's support site with no luck, We have 3 other machines running 10.3.8 here in our office and they don't have any icon problems either Lonepine and I tried Disk Permissions and fsck, but neither of them worked until I used the RebuildDesktop app. And I isually leave my machine on all the time PD at the office. Thanks for everyone's advice though. The good news is it's working now.
