How's the GD job market out there? Quality of life?
My mom's seriously considering moving there (around the Atlanta/Kennisaw area). She wants me to come along and I really have no reason not to other than I'm too used to California. Home prices are astronomical out here and it's just too hard to make a decent living--especially for someone just starting out. The Atlanta traffic is nothing new, we have awful traffic here. The only thing is the bugs and humidity. I'm used to the dry California weather. I want my mom to be nearby when I've got kids, and she desperately wants to be a part of their lives when they come along.
If she moves it'll likely be right around the time I'm graduating (possibly a little after that).
Should I go? Help!

Well, I'm in Georgia. I live in Savannah which is about 4 hours from Atlanta. I love Georgia but I have been here since I was only 3 and I am 29 now. The Atlanta area has a higher cost of living and pays more than here in Savannah, from what I have heard and seen. The market is about the same everywhere right now I think - hard to plunge into at first but Atlanta is a pretty big place with tons of small areas surrounding it. You should be able to find work!
As far as the bugs and humidity...well...it is very humid ALOT of the time. Can't lie about that. There is NO dry heat down here! LOL! That will probobly take you some getting use to.
For the bugs - don't get a house on the marsh or near a swamp and you will be ok for the most part. Love bugs, roaches and mosquitos are common here tho..lol.
If you are going from Cali to Georgia - you may be in cluture shock at first...LMAO!!
I hear we talk slower but I don't think that is the case with me..hahaha!
If you want to stay close to your mom, then go for it! Why not! Yer young and if you don't like it, you can always move back to Cali right?? ;o)
Good luck! /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/thumbsup.gif

Yeah, I can move back if I can afford it ;) Starter homes are around $400-$500k here. It's obscene.
Hopefully sometime next year I'll make it out there to see if I can stand it. I'm really used to the dry heat that that California gets. Oh well, the houses are affordable there so what I save can go to central air conditioning. I can handle the bugs that don't get into the food, bite me, or are ugly (which means that I can pretty much only handle the rolly pollies). Someone mentioned that things are slow paced in GA. I guess I'm going to have to slow down because it's always go-go-go here in California.
The affordable housing, especially for the starting market, is a huge draw as I'd rather save my pennies and buy. That gives me plenty of room for myself sooner.
Oh, and one other thing, I was looking at homes in Kennesaw last night and only a few had fences. Is it kosher to put one up to keep the dog(s) safe?
Right now I'm leaning towards going, mostly to stay close to my mom because I'm really going to want her to be nearby when I have kids.

I live in ATL....Kennesaw is growing fast is becoming very exprensive. But then again, ATL is expensive. (thast why I still live @ home lol)
Kennesaw is a nice area to live in though, I have a few friends that to to Kennesaw State University. I love abotu 30-45 minutes from Kennesaw, but its all looks the same to me. :)
However, I hear the GD market is good. I havent' graduated yet, so I don't know too well yet, but DZ is right, Atl is HUGE so ur bound to find at least something to hold you over til you can get something good.
As for the weather? I dunno what to tell you. Last wed i was wearing a turtlenck and now i'm wearing a tank top and flip flops. Its ridiculous. But the summers are HOT. But, overall, its pretty nice. Like DZ said, you can always move back to Cali if you don't like it. I think you shoudl go! Take the chance! I am!

No fences? What? hahah! Everyone in my neoghborhood has one including me so yeah I would think its totally fine /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/smilewinkgrin.gif
Slower pace here - yeah kinda but its nice. Of course I've been here all my life and am use to it. Don't let us Georgia folk trick you...we may work at a slower pace but we are in no way 'dumb southerners' like the TV portrays at times /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/lol.gif
On the weather - I'm with DD. One day is 35 degrees and the next its 80! Been like that for over a month now. It's kinda crazy but you do get use to it. The humidity may be the only thing that might take you a long time to get use to.
Take a chance - do it! :oP Good luck!

My mom and I were emailing houses in Woodstock, Kennesaw, and Acworth today and the market is just overflowing with stuff that'll be perfect for both my mom and I. My mom can get a house big enough to take in all of the family members who need taking in (elderly grandparents and my divorced aunt who will have no one when my cousin goes to college) and once I'm working can probably afford a house that I can stay in for a long time.
Just for kicks I ran the same search criteria for my area and the home prices tripled.
I guess Christmas 2006 will be in your guys' neighborhood :)

Oh, forgot to ask if there's any wild creatures that would take an interest in a 30lb dog out in GA. My dog can't go outside alone here because of the coyotes and snakes. You guys got those things?
We want to set up a doggy door/dog run so she can take care of personal matters on her own time.
