Im just wondering for a beginner what is the best all round program to use? I would like to learn how to do all sorts of things but where would be the best place to start?

Hi Loscann,
What area of design do you want to specialise in ? Do you have any formal training ? Understanding basic principles of typography and composition are necessities (sp?). Software wise, you'll need to know a layout programme like quark or indesign, a vector artwork programme like adobe illustrator, macromedia free hand or corel draw, and something like photshop, but as a beginner you could just invest in the elements version or something like paint shop pro.

as a beginner, you should invest in some arts courses (ie. art theory/history, life drawing, typography, communication design/graphics...)
software depends entirely on what sort of work you want to ultimately do.
