Just wondering if anyone knew the best way to create a newsletter to send via email. I know I oculd attach a pdf, but i think i just want it so when they open the email it shows. I have done small email newsletters before and just attached a jpg to the email, but what about a whoel newsletter?

Just stick with PDF.

Especially for proofing. The time it would take for you to output each page as a jpg outweighs the time it would take for them to load acrobat reader. Especially if you have to do multiple proofs.

Hi Michelle

There are alot of companies which like to use email newsletters - these are designed in frontpage or dreamweaver. Never try an attempt to design an e-newsletter by copy and paste or insert picture. Thejpegs etc for the newsletter are uploaded onto an activeremote web domain site - these are then linked into the document in order to be seen by the recipient, i.e. an e-newsletter is typically like an active webpage on a remote server. Don't copy and paste things in!

Get a copy of the dreamweaver MX2004 trial version 2004 from www.macromedia.com (http://www.macromedia.com). There are tutorials on the web which show you how to do this - best is www.maclab.guhsd.net (http://www.maclab.guhsd.net) which gives you a step by step lessons via quicktime.

Word of warning though. Due to so many viruses being transmitted now adays, alot of companies have put security checks on all emails containing embedded material as these emails can also responsible for transmitting viruses. They therefore ban the email from getting to the recipient and send the email back to you.

Have you an active website? The best way to do an e-newsletter is design it as a webpage on your website; however don't put an active link on your website to this why - I'll come to this in a moment;instead send a text only notification email to your subscribers with the link address to notify them of the newsletter. Only people sent the link will get access to the newsletter and click onto the page. In this aspect, by simple web stat programmes which should be available if you have a website, you can exactly identify who has actually logged onto the site or how many of the subscribers have logged onto the site and for how long etc. This is an effective marketing tool for measuring the success of your e-marketing. However, you can also add an active link on your website, should you wish.

The above means, that your email files will be small, not clogging the network when being sent, will go directly to your recipients and you can measure your marketing campaign successfully.Unfortunately, I would love to design e-stationary, and e-newsletters myself for my company as it looks so good, however, as it has its problems with embedded files and firewalls are becoming sceptical of them, they cause their difficulties and from a marketing point of view, I'll wait until someone discovers a clear line solution which has no flaws - it is far more effective to send a plain text message with a link instead.Laura
