too true!
there was something i read about a montreal shop that was forced to take all it's tobacco products and advertising out of sight because minors used the shop.
and THEN, there's the group of people who used to work at the microwave popcorn plant who all got cancer or had a cancer scare because of the high concentration of 'butter' they'd been exposed to.

I wonder one thing ... who and why, is it decided that certain things can be allowed to be sold but not others. I'm becoming increasingly convinced that it is the little scientists that do these stupid experiments (so as to attract bigger investments, and thus better wages) that are fuelling this trend of ping-ponging decisions on whether or not something is good or bad for you. God damn media meddlers, that they are ...
good greif...just educate people and let them make their own decisions.
This is probably all caused by people who were diagnosed with cancer and needed to blame it on something.

Wouldn't relying on people to make their own choices, be dangerous? Afterall, if we did the same thing with law and order, I don't think the civilized society (hmmm ... what is that these days?) as we know it would last too long ...

People cause cancer, if we get rid of all the people, cancer will no longer be a problem.

Is anyone familiar with recent thought, that cancer is an inevitable side-effect of living longer?
There was a study done on prostate cancer. It reveiled that all men will eventually end up with prostate cancer. It's 100%. If you're a man, and if you live long enough, you will have prostate cancer.

Scary news there, JB.
I think I'll book an appointment at the Deposit Bank, just in case.
That can be pretty expensive...about as much as a storage unit costs!

Hmmm ... you think it'd be more expensive that inpregnating a lovely young lady, and bringing up a child into the world?
it would just add to those costs...freezing your sperm so you CAN impregnate a lovely young lady, and bring the little kidcicle into the world.

Hahaha ... good point JB.
Well ... I've maybe got another 40 or 50 years left in me, so maybe I should start while I'm ahead.
But isn't the same timescale issue true of women? in terms of their womb? Don't you risk your own lives and child's, as you get older?
Yep...there's a greater risk when having kids at an older age...
but what DOESN'T have a risk attached?
soSCREW risks!

This I think, is the problem JB. Risk is something people used to accept ... these days, the nanny principal thinks everything needs wrapped up and labelled as 'potentially' harmful, where as once upon a time, common sense was all anybody needs to know that (like you said).
I don't we can entirely screw risks though ... if that were the case, we'd have a severe flaw in our survival rate. I just think we need the nanny society to step back, and balance things to a decade or two back, where the risk ratio was better balanced.

All that said, the insurance and lawyer boom has a lot to answer for, in the nanny trend.
You've got me there. You can't COMPLETELY screw it. It's these crazy companies who take away free choice that make you want to go nuts and screw it all though. It's not that I neccesarily want their products, but give me the choice!
Don't get me started on insurance companies. My husband was diagnosed with cancer the beginning of this month. Apparently there was a clause in the insurance that was got in November saying that they don't cover anything big like cancer for 6 months after we get the insurance. So we'd have to pay for everything ourselves. We just kept trying to get them to pay, and they finally decided that they'd cover us. What gives?

I lost someone to bone-marrow cancer a few years back ... and I'm glad that you persued your insurance company until they coughed up; it is amazing what companies try to withhold from you, until you pester them enough. Thankfully, even though you may not be entitled to something, most people will not have the patience or determination to follow up, thus a small handfull of persuasive and persistent people like yourselves, can reap some reward.
It's all just about keeping as much money in their accounts as possible ... no morals or ethics involved on their part at all.

it's gotten so that i don't want to tell my doctor anything, just in case s/he writes it down and an insurance company gets their hands on it at some point in the future.
imagine using a medical history or condition as an excuse to not payout medical insurance. insurance is the biggest scam going. like a firefighter trying to keep himself employed...

So true... My hub says our insurance company is the devil.

poor guy. That's terrible... when someone has a serious injury or illness, the LAST thing they need to worry about is money.
I hate insurance companies! /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/violent.gif

Oldy enough, I recenlty did awebsite for ... an insurance company of all people. Very well paid it was, too (though they were right ++++++ at the end, when it came to settling their account on time).

Actually, no I haven't watched it for awhile. I've just been really disappointed with the human race in general recently. War, Bush, another big school shooting, you know...
