how do you update a Directories File listing within a program (such as Mail, or an online Attachment window, or EVEN THE DOCK!)...

i usually hit apple i (for get info) but you can get an apple script (google apple refresh script or apple script refesh) to do it if it's stopped responding

my problem is that when i add a new file/folder on my server from another computer, it won't automaticly be shown on certain parts of my mac...
it will automatically update if i am browsing a directory Via Finder, but if i was in the middle of writing an email and had to attach a file that was just added to the server it won't show up in the 'attach file' window (Causing me to have to close that email i was writing and then create a new one)
same kind of thing happens with my Dock... I have my server folder sitting in my dock so i can browse the whole server with just one right-click, that too doesn't show files/folders that have just been added either, until i relaunch Finder.
does anyone else experience this kind of problem when using thier mac with a server???

is the server a mac also ?
there are issues with mac networks that unless set up correctly they don't send the correct procedures when transferring/adding files for the server/client to refresh

yeah, a pc server won't send the refresh string and vice versa.
did a google and came up with this, didn't read it though but may be useful
