When importing jpeg image into Flash environment and making it eg. alpha tweening, there's a small partial distortion in the this image, it looks like a small part of image moves from side to side. This only happens with JPEG file type. When working with GIF, everything works fine. Any idea how tokill this bug?

This is one solution. But comparing GIF to JPEG and respecting color range, GIF creates bigger files than JPEG with same compression quality. :(

Weird, yeah I found gif was poor compared to jpg. Are you sure you didn't move the image someway? What were the settings you had when you save for web?

JPEG images have a tendancy to distort in flash. You can eliminate the strange effect by scaling your jpeg to 99.9% and converting it to a graphic. Hope that helps.

I was just going to ask about a similar problem when I found this thread.

I am having a GIF conversion issue. A GIF in the exported flash movie from my computer looks fine. My client, however, claims the graphic looks 'jagged'. I am working cross-country with this client so there is no way I can view exactly what he is seeing. Could his screen resolution make a difference? I am at a loss. My current resolution is 1280X960, I haven't asked him what his screen resolution is as of yet. I changed my resolution to 1024X768 and still saw a clean image.

Also, I have run into an issue in flash, during a motion tween of a basic symbol movement, a 'glitch' (I am assuming) causes a line to appear in one frame of various different motion tweens of this same symbol. I know this line does not exist because when I magnify my stage to anything above 100%, it is nowhere to be found.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Maybe have him send a screenshot.

As for GIF vs JPEG, which one is better depends on the image. JPG supports 16 million colors while GIF only supports 256. For things like full color photo, JPG is better, but most other things are better in GIF because of the lossless compression. Also, PNG combines the full color support with alpha transparency and lossless compression. If only IE supported it properly.

Ok. I went ahead and changed the GIF to a PNG. Then, I found out he was stretching the movie to full size screen. ERG! anyway, I still can't figure out the glitch problem. I can't even mask it, I've tried everything....

Are you using the image @ 100%???
Try resizing to 99.9% using the transition pallette. Flash has a problem with images used and animated at 100%.
Why can't you mask it?
How large is the .fla?

I've tried everything. The image originally was an eps which I had to convert to an swf. I have tried resizing, I have tried masking, I acts like it's embedded in the top layer of the fla, but when I even tried to add another layer and cover it up, it was on top of that layer also. When I resize my actual stage zoom to anything above 100% it dissappears. I have found the actual keyframes it exists in and tried manipulating that by moving keyframes on the timeline, copying over it, ect....I am at a loss. It appears for 1 frame intervals, 3 times in the movie. I don't get it. I am to the point of telling the client there is nothing I can do about it, but that will make me look bad. But, I have just about had enough.

How involved is your fla? Lots of scripting and timline code?
What version of flash are you using?
I'd be happy to take a peek at your .fla if you want.
Shoot it the email address by my screename.
