Sadly DefJoe, as long as that amount is not TOO under 30,000 I'd probably hop on that in a second (I want no less than 27,000 - 29,000, I currently make under 20,000).

That Canadian job is quite hilarious.

At one job I interviewed for, it was Krey Distributing...a distributor for Anheiser Busch. Very expensive, nice building. Even though they used Corel Draw exclusively (ugh), the positives (what I knew of the position so far) outweighed the negatives so I definitely pursued that. Their work was definitely portfolio worthy, though a bit 'template-ish.'

Despite a sucessful interview, I never heard back, and I came to find out why. My career counselor phoned me up and said that the hiring woman had phoned her, and that too many designers being sent her way was demanding way too much money. To make a long story short, she only wanted to pay $7.00 a hour. My counselor's response was 'You are NEVER going to get a good artist for that amount.'

I guess it doesn't surprise me that the other graphic designer I met there during the interview struck me as the 'housewife' type.

I agree with Patrick. I make far less than 30,000 and I probably do twice as much as what they would expect that person to do. Prepress work and design work. Not enough design work though. I really need to find a new job!

That Canadian job is pretty bad. Makes me kind of think of the position I am in now. Hmmmm....

i would like to know this. I never understood it. I was looking up GD jobs the other day, and i see all these 'entry-level' jobs available. right? Ok. So I assume (please correct me if i am wrong) that 'entry-level' means that pretty much you are a newbie who has just graduated. So, then, a few lines down on the job description, they say 'must have 2-3 years on the job/ GD/ web/ whatever experience'. I do not get this. If i am ENTRY LEVEL, how am i gonna have 2-3 years experience aside from school and maybe an internship if you had one???? Can someone PLEASE explain this to me?

"BAN!"

Today I begin to understand what love must be, if it exists.... When we are parted, we each feel the lack of the other half of ourselves. We are incomplete like a book in two volumes of which the first has been lost. That is what I imagine love to be: incompleteness in absence.

Patrick and Neuro... I feel for you guys and i hate to hear these stories cause it is so wrong. the problem is the preception of what we do. the majority of people that hire GD are non GD and that is an issue. Cause they think it's a 'fun' and 'easy' job. so they can pay us less. It's crap. Sure what we do can be fun. but it is also a TALENT. Not everyone can do it. you can't really LEARN to do this job. you either have it or not. Cause if you LEARN it you won't go above production artist (for the most part).

I hope you guys get better.

Umm... quick question if you all don't mind. What excatly is the difference between Art Director and a Graphid Designer?

Without language, there is NO concept...

an art director asks for something to be moved 3 pixels to the left
a graphic designer moves things 3 pixels to the left......and one pixel back to the right ?

I don't know actually
