Bear, the other week I worked from 9am Tuesday through to 7am Wednesday. I can do that quite well because my mind tends to work better in the later parts of the day. I could never start working at 4am, I just wouldn't have the motivation.

Since deciding to give up working for myself, I've been up at odd shifts - kinda like being a student again - preparing bits and pieces, and finishing off odd ends, before looking for the comforts of employment.

well you've certainly all brightened up my day!
red raw, i'm the same, but i also find as much time as possible before 9am a god send, as that's generally when normal people and clients get to work, and 2-3 hours of blissful silence without phones/emails ringing is good for getting stuff done.

I have to agree with the early morning sentiment. My wife gets up at 4:30 (she is a PA and has to be at the emergency room by 7) and I get up at the same time if I have any freelance work. Lately I have been doing a lot of freelance illustration so I've been up at 4:30 for about the past month and then I'm out the door at 7 to come to my regular 8-5 job.
