Anybody get em? How do you deal with em? Have you been to see the Doc? I used to get about 2-3 a week, now I'm on a daily beta blocker and have Imitrex for when I do get em, and have gone down to about 2-3 a month... but still. Always like to hear what everybody else does to help alieviate some of the pain. I've thought about going to see a Chiropractor, but haven't yet.

dear God... do I get migraines! I talked to my family doctor about them once, but never ended up paying to go to the chiropractor.

I generally take Aleve cold and sinus, which knocks them out if I catch them early enough, but sometimes they get so bad that I can do nothing other than sleep through them.

Last night I had one that just wouldn't quit. I hopped in bed with a heating bad behind my neck and shoulders and a cool aromatherapy (lavendar and whatnot) pillow over my eyes, and that helped a lot.

Weird you would post that today, I found this info for my Wife this morning as she is getting really bad neck and head pains that lead to Migraines.

I have to keep giving her my World class Massages... sorry I can't offer them out to you both...

migraines can be a sign that there is something else wrong in your body. it may be as simple as giving yourself a 'tune-up'. ie. making sure you aren't pouring toxins into your body by way of your diet/environment. hell, just eating meat (as i love to do) or extra stress can make some of your major organs stop functioning optimally, thereby putting you at a physical disadvantage. maybe you have to look for why you're getting migraines. then the solution will be really easy.

if you can find someone near you who is qualified in 'eastern' nutrition, accupuncture &/or shiatsu you may be better off than filling your body with more toxins for it to deal with.

please know that i only sound like a crazy hippie! :P and just know that i am saving myself SO much pain and money by cutting certain foods out of my diet and stopping all the 'western' medicine. well, i still use band-aids.

you may need to do a liver cleanse so that your body can function properly.

i really hope that helped.

about a year / year and a half ago, I was having some weird sensation in my head at certain times, kind of like a needle being poked into your brain. Which naturally led me to jump to all sorts of ridiculous conclusions including a possible brain tumor (think Billy Bob Thornton from that Bandits movie). But I guess it's what you'd call a migraine, I wouldn't know, since I hadn't had one before up to that point.

I don't know how this helps you in the short term, but my observations were this: seemed to only occur under certain weather conditions or environments (probably overanalyzing). However, I did change my diet to something a little healthier and I haven't had them since for quite a long while now.

sounds about right. If I remember right, migraines can be caused by stress, weather, allergies, and diet.

This is a topic that may be too much info, but may help someone, so I'll put it out there. I found that diet has played a big role in my getting frequent headaches. I used to get them a lot in high school, and get them infrequently now and then. I had a bad one 6 weeks ago, and had a terrible one yesterday. It was so bad yesterday that I wanted to cry out loud at times. It starts as a small ache in a part of my head, usually around lunchtime, then spreads throughout my whole head if I don't take Tylenol. I found when I was having inconsistent digestion over a period of several days, I would get terrible headaches. I don't feel like eating, can't sit up or pay attention to anything, and just want to lay down on a bed in darkness.

I took some Tylenol, and passed out for 1/2 hr to an hour. By the time I wake up, I usually feel better. I think this has to do with inconsistent digestion. Too much bread, meat, soda (mostly the carbination) and not enough veggies and water seems to be a cause and effect relationship here. I'm going to make a conscious effort to watch my diet more.

The number of triggers for migraines are NUMEROUS. If you really want to find out what's causing them, ask your doctor for a brochure or get one from Imitrex. They list all the possible causes. From there, get out a trusty note pad and make a journal. Look at the atmospheric conditions before and up to when you got one...look at the qir quality...write down how well or bad you slept, what you ate, what you're stressed about etc. etc. If you can find a pattern, then you can find out what's causing them.

Medically, I believe migraines are caused by the swelling of the arterial wall that runs along the optic nerve (hence the aura's some poeple experience).

For me when I was in my teens I used to get them bad. Would start out with the small patch of blurry vision, called an 'aura'. From there, I had about 20 minutes before I'd be vomiting, and then the migraine would start. I'd be done for a full 24 hours. I'd have to sleep/lay in a darkened room until it passed. Imitrex helped...but I took the nasal spray one time...bad idea. The stuff was too liquidy, and ran back into the back of my throat, causing me to vomit more, putting additional pressure on my migraine, causing double the pain. Take the pill...lol.

What i found was when I was working out and doing cardio vascular 4-5 times a week, my migraines disappeared. IT was also partly because I had finished going through puberty (yeah I know...hard to believe and i'm still waiting for my dick to grow). But, I did get them sporacidally after that, until I started working out. My doctor said that because of the increased blood flow, the artery walls become stronger, and are less prone to swelling. Talk about a fringe benefit of getting into shape...but boy, makes the whole thing worth it if you can live without migraines.

Now, I find quick pressure changes in the atmosphere does it to me. This winter has really spread my cheeks and given it to me...we had warming spells then quick freezes. Every morning that happened, i woke up with a minor but still annoyiing migraine.

Just remember, the trigger is 'relax.' (wonders if anyone will understand that reference)

I have nothing to add to this topic as far as help. /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/ibf-iamstupid.gif

One thing though, of no particular value. I don't eat right, never excersise, have undergone major stress, broke my back, and I have never had a migraine.

Sound advice I recieved from my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter:

we had this subject matter before ... some time last year. i used to get mild migraines back when i was getting accustomed to the pill. don't get them anymore. but, my husband gets them a lot. migraines are unusual because people that get them have different triggers and different remedies that work. what works for one might not work for another. there are multiple triggers to them as well that's why doctors and researchers haven't figured out how to cure them, only treat them. case in point, if you get them frequently, and serious enough that no otc medicine will work, one thing always will ... imitrex. my husband has a supply of imitrex in his drawer and is never without it. it is the only thing that i know of that will knock out your migraine.
