Anyone here used the new Inuos 3 Graphic Tablets?

I used my brother in laws...oh boy - that thing is VERY nice!! Well worth the money I would say. he's a photographer and uses it to touch up his digital shots. It's smooth Ulysses and I only used it for a few minutes.

Thanks D-Zine.
Am I right in assuming that these graphic tablets cater for finer and more intricate precision, as they increase the resolution? I ask, because the last time I used one, it was impossible to reproduce intrictae line work, such as 0.25 illustration. I'm thinking an Inuos 3 A6 should be fine enough, as I conventionally use an A6 sketch pad.

Have it, love it, my MWWC comic is drawn with it. But I use it for thicker outlines, so I'm not sure 'how' fine it goes, but it can be adjusted very fine for pressure drawing in Illustrator.

That sounds good to me; pressure drawing in Illustrator. What scale tablet do you work with Patrick?

A 6x8, it's plenty for what I do. If you do get one and plan to use Illustrator, you're going to have to tweak a few settings to get it to do pressure. A tutorial is hidden on Wacom's site, I think I posted the URL in an old Wacom thread on this board.

Thanks for that Patrick. I'm thinking of a 6x8 too.

i have the 9x12 Intuos3... very nice, very.
those side buttons and touchstrips are great (especially when you lean back in you seat and prop your feet up)...
i keep my left tablet buttons setup of for Spacebar, ctrl, alt, shift, and the touchsrtip for zoom, then on my right i have undo, step back undo, step forward redo, enter, and my touchstrip for scroll...
believe me, after getting used to the precision of this thing it will become hard for you to use a mouse. :) well worth the investment!

Thanks for the comments Silence ... I'm very very much swinging in the direction of the Intuos 3 A5. Like you, those custom buttons (particularly for zooming) would come in very very handy (it is so annoying using the Navigator/Scale when working away in Illustrator). Do you find you use the full 9 x 12 area, Silence? or would you actually cope fine with the 6x8?

yeah, i use the whole area, for sure. i was going to get the 6x8 until i cut out a 6x8 piece of paper and a 9x12 piece of paper and saw that i would much rather use the 9x12. and i do, its practical the same size as my screen and i like being able to do longer strokes.
it also has some different ways to map your tablet area so you can use a smaller portion of it for quickly navigating on your screen and a larger area mapped for just illustrating.

I've read that there can be mapping issues, when used with multiple monitor setups. Anybody found this?
Also ... when money isn't quite so tight, I'm thinking of updating from A5 to A4 (we'll see how I get on with the A5 first). How do people estimate the value of these tablets holding up in the next 12 months?

hey ulysees,
I use one with alias sketchbook pro and have to change my settings from dual screen to single screen (but i have it set as a dualview rather than span, so it's like a little extra area over on the right screen rather than the whole screen spanning two monitors) because when you draw it appears about 6 inches away from the cursor.

Hey Bear,
I take it that the driver/software for the Intuos 3, doesn't allow for an extended desktop then? I've not been able to find any information on this, but I don't fancy changing my desktop setup to dual-view, just to use the graphic tablet. Is it possible to map the tablet area to a defined working area?
yeah, in the settings you can switch it to stay refined to the primary screen, but becomes annoying to have to keep switching to a mouse just to go click on an application over in the secondary monitor. sheesh! why'd they have to go an' make things so complicated..........you're acting like somebody else makes me frustrated.........sorry off on a little avril lavigne recital then!

Take a chill-break Bear, lol
I hear what you're saying about the convenience of assigning control over the entire desktop. Nice to know that I have the option to use the full tablet area for one monitor, rather than reducing it to cater for the full width of my multi-monitor desktop. I looked on the Wacom site, and they showed a shockwave animation of what you described ... just wasn't sure (As you mentioned) that it was restricted to dual-desktop. Being able to use it with an extended desktop is what suspect I may do.
