Hi everyone,

A little new to the forum but a little old in the graphics biz(18 years http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

I have a little problem im my hand, recently I received a job in two platforms Illustrator 10 and Freehand 9 to be outputed trough freehand.

my problem comes in when I try to export the art from Illustrator evrything goes crazy. There is so many distortions that I can't even see the mostdetailed stuff plus, inside the Illustator there is a lot's elements with transparencies, internally locked compound paths and so forth.

Question! is there any bright ideas to export the art form these 2 platforms without loosing details.

TIA,

JLart

Which versions of Freehand and Illy?
What OS?
Does it have to be output thru FH?
Or can you bring the FH into Illy and output via pdf?

PD is a grande format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing

Hi PrintDriver,

For the first part of your question I already put in my post before Illustrator 10 and Freehand 9. Now I can only output trugh freehand because I'm building a step and repeat and my system is all geared to freehand othere then Illlustrator.

What I can say is that the color control in Illustrator is very weak and it does put me trough a lot trouble to output.

We could make this a lot easier by printing trough a PDF file but, I do have to do a lot of work with the elements before it can be outputed.

If you have any good ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks,

JLart

Illustrator 10 is not the strongest link in the usually strong chain of the Illustrator applications... I would suggest two things; first under the object menu, use the flatten transparency command and set the raster-vector setting to 100... there are additional buttons that you may turn on or off depending on the needs of your job. the other would be to then export the file as an illustrator 10 eps file, or possibly an 8. these might help.

good luck

I caught the drift!!!

I''l try to do that, what about the compound paths is there anyway to deal with them like regrouping and be able to move the art without messing it up?? everything I tried so far has been a failure.

10x again,
