I don't understand that.

I can't see one here.

The door is locked, and there is evidently no key.

Oh my God! Bladez died so that the rest of us could live?
It is a stupid game. First off, you never said you wanted to commit a ritual self-disembowlment. Secondly, Seppuku isn't really the sort of thing you can do by yourself unless you can behead yourself while still leaving enough neck-flesh so that your noggin doesn't fall off completely. And how the Hell would you practice that?

I read the leaflet, how do I explore the dungeon :(

I found a sewer grate and canyon. It wouldn't let me eat the birds I found though.

I managed to get inside the house, and found the trap door leading to the underground maze/cavern/river/damn/rooms/art studio/theifs den/etc, stole some art and inflated a raft....then lost interest lol

Aha. So getting into the house IS key. Not that they'd bother putting a house into the game unless if MEANT something. :D

How'd you get in the house?
I found a jewel encrusted egg at the top of a tree in a nest. and then I can't open the grate or enter the canyon.
I love games like this, but only when I can figure them out. lol.
Virgo Nightingale
02-09-2012, 10:43 PM
Oh, I didn't think to CLIMB the tree. I did try knocking on it. The game asked me why.

I'll try playing tomorrow. Hubby has gig. I'll be home alone. Then again there are plenty of projects around the house that need my attention, the last thing I should be doing is playing an old text-based question and answer game.

Q: What's the worst place to play Zork?
A: In a bar. BAR BAR BAR.

You just better hope the giant bat doesn't carry you to the gas room while you are holding the torch...
Fweep fweep fweep
BOOM!
You have died.
Not sure where you'll find yourself or all the stuff you were carrying.
I can play that game practically in my sleep. When it first came out, there was no such thing as Save. You had to start every time at the beginning or leave the computer on all the time. You had to boot two 7.25" floppies to play it too.
The Gates of Hell are Fun. You only have 3 matches. :p
So is the Washing Machine.
And the Rainbow.
Bar Bar Bar...LOL.
Think one-word instructions. You can use E W N or S for directions. It really helps to draw a map.

that's the problem I was having...I was trying to do the map from memory...wasn't going very well....I can't tell you how many times I ended up in the art studio!

We didn't use graph paper. It was a really big taped-together map done on sprocket driven green and white computer paper. :p

OMG. When I worked in Accounts Receivable, I got a four-inch high stack of greenbar every month. It was my trial balance. I spent the month working the accounts and re-submitting them to the insurance companies.
We used graph paper. 1 step = 1 graph square.

I used graph paper when Wizardry came out. That really lent itself to squares.
Zork was before my time but I still have a full set of graph paper Wizardry I and II maps around here someplace. Colored pencil on graph paper with heavy notation LOL

What were your party names?
Sikar the thief
Salandar the priest (Spelling out those spells all the time...Yikes...ie Loktofeit was handy, but you had to go back and find your armor).
Shando, Solo, and Terk were the warriors
Poof was the Mage who could cast a Tiltowait like no tomorrow (basically a small thermonuclear explosion). I kept losing mages cuz they just don't have the spells or the armor. Who'd have thought the one named Poof would make it to well over 20 levels. Figures. LOL.
Had to have one to cast healing spells and one to cast mayhem spells. It was awesome when the priest learned Kadorto (the resurrection spell) and you didn't have to pay half your gold to have the temple do it. Of course it could go horribly wrong...
I was cleaning out a box in the back closet about a month ago and came across a roll of sprocketed computer paper about the size of a roll of toiletpaper. It was a printout done of the entire game of the Leather Goddesses of Phobos, done in linear order. My sister had to have done it. I could never organize something like that. Now that was a funny game. Especially in "Lewd" mode. :D
Heh heh, I remember all that stuff. Remember the first time you met Murphy's Ghost and he totally kicked your ass LOL. Then after a few level ups you could use him to get mass points.

This is starting to remind me of a birthday party I went to last week, where the host pulled out something he got at Goodwill, and said "Hey, you wanna play Top Secret? It's a role-playing game from T.S.R."
Like an idiot, I said, "I remember that game."
Usually, I try to keep my D&D years in the back of the closet, behind the skeleton. A special skeleton, with A.C. 0 and 4000 hit points.

I have a whole pad of graph paper for doing up stitching designs... and I'm loving the little bit of time I spent with Zork. If only I had a netbook or otherwise portable computer (that's not my iphone) to play on. then I'd loose my whole life in it.
On second thought it's probably better that I don't.
