You mention lightwave, modelling and rendering ? or just modelling ?
I use 3D apps and Editing/Compositing Software quite abit, so i built a computer to cater for the rendering and modelling involved in that, and everything else, it's above adequate for. Photoshop also loves the dual processor, and as much ram as you can cram in is always a plus (upto 2.5GB max with windows XP Pro)
Dual Xeon 3.06
2GB DDR333 Ram
Nvidia Quadro 980 XGL
2 x 80GB SATA HDD (160GB Raid)
2 x 80GB IDE
22' IIyama
If it's just modelling, then a fast single processor will benefit you more than a dual, and spend the extra on a better card.
Hope this helps
