hi, everyone, i am new here, however i have an old problem which has bug me for some time.

whenever i use freehand10/illustrator cs with my powerbook on os X, i simply cannot creat outline for asian fonts, even with system fonts. what is the problem? how can i fix it?

now i have to use my old machine for work instead of new one.


pls help!

in illustrator, select your text and go to object > expand appearance instead.

Good call Bear. But I don't think it'll work. I had a font where that happened to me and you can't do anything with it (besides look at it on screen). I think it's a corruption issue. I just deleted it and re-installed it from the orig. and it worked. Maybe it was something that ATM did to it while working in OS9?? Not sure.

Isn't there a font encoding used for Asian characters that is different from the regular fonts that has been giving pdf export hiccups? Seems I saw something around here recently about something like that...

PD is a grande format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing

well you could import into PS and then outline it there (by making a path)

you just might have to smooth it up when you bring it back to Illy
