I have a PILE of stuff on my desk that looks like Mt. St. Helens, everything due at the end of the week. We've got one person out sick so I'm picking up some of her crap, too. I can't concentrate on any of my design projects because this is the building season and the phone won't stop friggin' ringing (after all, I am also the lowly receptionist /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif ) My boss doesn't have an ad schedule put together for the year and I got a third page in Custom Home at the last minute (boss didn't even tell me about it, I got the heads up from the mag rep) and I shipped it out two hours after I got the notice. I'm doing the excess from someone else's desk (CAD drawings, which I HATE to do) because he's got 'other things to do'. And to top it off, my boss just singled me out and said I spend too much time on the internet.....of course, other employees are off the hook because they have laptops they can use to browse without being tracked. Everyone in the office uses the internet for personal use on down time.......BUT my computer is the only one in the office in FULL view of everyone else.
So, better get my pancakeing ass back to work.....thanks for the vent. /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/frusty.gif /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/blowingup.gif
Oh yeah, I forgot. I just quit smoking on the 1st so my whole attitude stinks and every little thing sets me off.

I was in a similar rut last week....mein fuhrer's son went on vacation and suddenly everyone wants to come in and drop some sort of soccer mom typesetting project into my section. Where we (well them, not me) were heavily flawed was that every job was being promised rush, never stopping once to warn that we were backed up. Like you, one of my actual design projects (first in months) went on hold for the entire week as whenever I tried to start on it, I'd be interrupted ten minutes into it with mein fuhrer saying 'I need this right away'. (I finally finished the design project yesterday.)
Now rush was bad enough, but the customers were clearly lying about how fast they needed the jobs. The problem was that despite setting up the jobs as the customer specified, they'd keep bouncing them back with more and more changes. (For more on last week's clusterf**k, see the 'Huh, wha?' (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/desktopdefault.aspx?f=13&m=122577&tabid=137) thread of mine, goes into greater detail.)
So whenever others go on vacation, I get loaded (naturally). But when I go on vacation, where's the return favor? Nope, they save all my work in one big pile until I get back. (And naturally, the damned customers have sixth sense whenever I go on an extended leave.) Would it be so hard to hire a temp or freelancer for the leave? Heck, bringing them in for ONE single day would make a difference. God, I really need to work around other designers.....

Me, too Patrick. Me too.
I'd love to get away from all these office wads and surround myself with creative people. I'm tired of being the gimp......

The beauty of the internet is that you guys could start your own company together and work at home. I've got clients in KC that I've I met once while I was there. They in turn passed me along to other clients of whom I've never met. I do it all through phone calls, emails, instant messages and of course snail mail. Some people actually believe they are 'Hip' by doing business that way. Go figure.
Unfortunately, you'll always have to deal with dumbasses.

As I said somewhere in the 'What is your theme song' thread, my theme at the 'copy shop' is the gimp's music from Pulp Fiction!

Yes, I found that whistling the theme song from 'The Simpsons' in my head puts everything into perspective. I have to do it all day long though. I sometimes think I've died and people doing idiotic things around me is my own private hell. I also like to hum the 'Sanford & Son' theme song when I get an ad that looks like total S**T!!!

I'm not really in this field to make big money....I just want to LIKE, maybe even LOVE, my job!! My boss is essentially a sexist pig with the peter pan syndrome who's never had to do anything himself in his whole life. If I ever quit my job it will be because of him. So far, I'm able to maintain......
And Kink, I don't think you need anything done to your eyes!!!!

Employers such - I feel I want to be sick at the moment. Handed in my notice three weeks ago and was told 'there'd be no advert to get someone to do your job' only to find that I'm working my arse off till midnight to get their pooe done now before I leave - and you know what they asked me - can you freelance for us after you leave? Little pooes - I told them politely to go ferk themselves - well actually told them what they asked me was totally unprofessionally as I should commit 100% to my new job and everything - so I ask for a reference and you know what - after being pulled into the office because a Partner is scared they can't maintain their levels of standards at the graphics front when I leave (that is not my problem - they should of got someone to replace me) - their pooting themselves because no one wants to do my job where I was sitting do everyones work till 11 each night and after asking me again to freelance and me saying know guess what I get in my reference? 'She inflexible'. I was fumming and shaking when I got home tonight - I have decided they can go ferk themselves and as far as I'm concerned i've got 4.5 holidays to take - I'm taking them.
