Don't know why this problem occurs. It's more annoying than anything, not a big deal, but still would like to get it fixed eventually.

OK, on my old machine (and every computer I ever used) I had no problem with me right clicking a web page and going to View Source to open up Notepad and view the sourcecode. However, for some reason on my laptop I click View Source nothing happens at all. Wonder if there's something obvious I'm missing (default HTML editor is set to Notepad) or if it's another dark cloud over something seemingly mundane?

there is a micrsoft knowledgebase article about changing the default html editorto notepad (text) in IE.

Internet Explorer click tools | Internet Options | Programs then change html editor to notepad. Also try clearing your temporary internet files in IE.

Doing both generally fixes the problem.

You can go to micrsoft.com and search for "Cannot View Source in Internet Explorer" you might also try googling if the above doesn't work.

I like the view source in firefox cuz it sepperates it all into colors. I guess then you could copy and paste into whatever editor you chose.

I have already changed the editor to notepad; that doesn't fix it. You know I have been considering Firefox for a while, I think I'll eventually just go that route.

I still use both browsers. But, the damned view source in IE has always been tempremental.
Registry edit always works best for me:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
|- Software
|-- Microsoft
|--- Internet Explorer
|---- View Source Editor
|----- Editor Name (Default) = C:\windows\notepad.exe

Oh ... if you don't have the 'View Source Editor' key, just add it and add the values as above.

Ohh, regedit scares me. Haven't toyed with it for a couple of years. OK, yeah I don't have View Source Editor there, so what kind of value am I adding (expandable is what I'm guessing, but I'm not sure)? And then the editor name value?

"Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, Marijuana, Ecstasy and Alcohol..."
"Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, Marijuana, Ecstasy and Alcohol..."

Just go to Internet Explorer, then create a new key and name this new key 'View Source Editor'. Then select it (Default) > then select Modify > then enter the path to notepad in the Value data field.
