I want to acheive this text effect. It looks like metal with a pink hue to it. Seems like there aren't many GOOD metal or chrome text tutorials out there. And the ones that are halfway decent looking don't make it easy to alter color settings, too many style settings have to be changed. Can anybody figure this out or maybe throw me some ideas?
Thanks,
Nate

Also, wouldn't mind figuring out this transparent effect also....

It could be done with a lot of layer effects...bevel emboss, drop shadow, texture overlay etc...
But both of those look like they came from the WOW cd. That's the cd in the back of the photo shop wow book. It has pre-made layer effects that will give you recults just like above.
here's a sample of a few i whipped up

You said there are some decent chrome tutorials, but there are so many layer styles it's hard to recolor. If you build a normal white chrome looking text image, Shift+cmd+N to create a new transparant layer, link the layers, and cmd+E to merge the chrome and transparant layer. When you merge layers, all layer styles are expanded. Now you have a simple raster image that you can use hue/saturation, color replacement tool, curves, or gradient map to color it pink.
Good?

Yeah, that works pretty good and I don't mean to sound picky (even though my clients are) but I'm trying to get as close to that look as possible. The metal looks very clean, smooth & shiny, and the gradients seem to flow with the shape of the font. Most of the chrome tutorials out there have jaggedy edges and the white is to bright, also those tutorials seem to be geared towards lower resolution web files and when I try to convert them to high res files, I lose some of the detail in the style settings. Most of my clients want somewhat more of an 'elegant' look than what I've been able to give them with my current selection of chrome styles.
I'm gonna see about that photoshop wow book later. Hopefully they have something similar.
Thanks for the suggestions.

1984 hit it perfectly on the head. That effect is a chop by chop rip of Scott Kelby in the Photoshop WOW book.
Really want that exact look? Get the book. :)
ALL generalizations are BAD.

Scott uses more than just a couple layer effects by the way, masking and feather and such are involved too.
ALL generalizations are BAD.

Out of curiosity ... Where exactly, are ladies free all night? Are there no financial obligations at all?
One thing that's cool about the WOW styles are they are just combos of layer effects. so if you do one of his styles you can then go in and tweak say just the drop shadow or inner glow if you want.
I think he has a small book called one click wow for someone who wants just the styles and presets.
Other neat things on the disc are wow gradients, wow brushes and other stuff.

I did this, it's not bad.
Just use Bevel & Emboss, then rasterize layer, then add filter again but from slightly different angles... etc..

Hi everyone, just dropped in and saw this thread.. does anyone know the author for the WOW book and which one is a good one to buy? I think there is a new one out for CS but I am not sure. Just was interested in checking out what the book had to offer! Thanks =)
