I was just reading a blog about Quark and it's competing PSD import Xtension....

Sounds cool, but you have to buy these Xtension. while InDesign has these functions native....

I use Quark at work, but without a doubt when i start freelancing again I'll get InDesign.

Is it me or is Quark not worth the hassle???http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/blink.gif

Quark has gotten very lazy. There's becoming no redeeming value to them when the price for that program is 'nearly' the same as the entire Adobe Suite.

I really would like Quark to snap out of it, because competition is good. Adobe still has troubles with downsaving (but Quark does too, to a degree).

Quark is still the industry leader, but InDesign is catching up hard, I'm starting to get those files more and more.

The .psd Xtension comes free with the free 6.5 upgrade. You do have to have Q6 to qualify.
You can also download the free Hi-res preview Xtension for Q6.x
Gotta keep up with Adobe you know...

I have 10 years worth of Quark files. The old *.qxd's and now their brainstorm of an idea to change to *.qxp. Now I have to save a new version of something that I should have just been able to go into and update hit save, print to pdf - done. Now it's a whole save as .qxp.

Now with the 10 yr database, ever since I heard about ID, I was like no way José. If it won't import Quark straight up, it ain't happening.

Recently, I've been getting spammed like crazy from Quark stating that they are a whole new company with big things coming soon (v7).

Another post I read earlier (quarkvsindesign.com) really opened my eyes to ID. So I downloaded a trial version of ID CS and started to explore.
Now I'm a HUGE keyboard shortcut junkie, and I'm not enthusiastic about having all my shortcuts disappear. No problem. Go into the preferences and choose Quark shortcuts. How awesome is that.

Now for the real reason for my post. Bear with me, I've only seen ID for less than 20 minutes and now I'm on my home PC. In the preferences for ID CS, it allows you to paste text with attributes. THIS IS HUGE. I build training manuals for an automotive consulting company, and I have curriculum developers who type up the manual in MS Word. When I copy and paste into Quark, all of the bold, underline, italic, etc. is gone. So for a 250 page manual, I have to very carefully look for this and apply it into Quark - this causes for major aches (carpal tunnel like) in my arms. After less than 20 minutes of exploring ID CS, I found that precious check box. Monday I will be calling my boss informing him that he will be purchasing 3 copies of ID.

<end rant>

um, as far as I know, this function is missing from Quark. I've been using it for over 10 years and have never come across it. But if any of you know if it is in Quark please post a reply and let me know. Thanks.
