I'm sending a business card to print. They want a .jpg or .tif. The card is an Illustrator file.

What's going to give me the best finished product...importing the .ai file into Photoshop as a .jpg or as a .tif?

I imported the Illustrator file into Photoshop, saved it as a .tif,and printed it on printer (not SUPER high-end, but a fairly decent photo printer), and it printed a tad blurry.

How should I send the printer the file? They can't use the raw Illustrator file.

Suggestions? Thanks!

You need to ask the printer this. I never send the raw file (unless they specifically request that), it's usually an .eps or .pdf. Most printers can take those formats. I wouldn't send an image file if at all possible.

Make sure you ask them how they want the file prepared. You'll have to embed the fonts or create outlines unless you're sure they have the same fonts on their system (which I wouldn't trust anyway) so .pdf is great for that. They might need you to convert the colors (to CMYK), etc. Your best friend for answering these questions is the printer themselves.

If they really want a tiff, I would suggest exporting your Illustrator file right out of Illustrator as a tiff


file > export > save as .tif


Make sure in the export settings that you choose CMYK and 300 dpi.

I just find that odd...if nothing else I would rather send a PDF if you can't send em the Illy file.
