Can we enlist the help of Bill Gates?

Normally I wouldn't ask, but I'd like him to make a minor change to the packaging for Microsoft Word.

Where they normally have a well positioned graphic on the front, I'd like to replace it with some simple wording. Something like...

'THIS IS NOT A GRAPHIC DESIGN PROGRAM YOU MORON!'

I think perhaps this could be in a something eye catching and easy to read. Definately a sans font of some kind, not Times New Roman or Comic Sans like most people seem to prefer.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Do you think Microsoft would go for it?

They'd have to do it on Powerpoint too! Then all their packaging would be the same. Doh, it already is...

PD is a grande format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing

They could just put it on the Office packaging and that would cover it.

This reminds me of that guy that was drawing stuff in Excel.

Ugh, I know - I have a logo that needs redoing because it was done in Word. Course, by that, you know what sort of quality it is too! I about died.

Better yet, why the heck does Word accept picture files at all? Shouldn't it JUST be a letter writing prorgam?????

Microsoft Word is just ... a letter writing program?
But what about all all the additional buttons and features it has to offer you in each new version, that you've yet to use? And what about the way it decides exactly what size your fonts should be, and where images and objects should snap to? And don't forget how good it's html exporting is ...

...hmmm, good point Jay. But then they would be required to eliminate the 'create-a-logo' button - (alternatively reffered to as word-art)

*shudders*

-And we all know the logistical nightmare that would inevitably ensue if businesses actually - had - to pay a professional to do it! The horror...ohh, the fiscal horror. /DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/dry.gif

Yeah, if MS Word magically disabled the ability to import graphics, then a lot of graphic designers could rest more easily.

It's funny how such a pathetic (graphically) application is responsible for so much aesthetical damage to the field of creative design. I think from now on when I go for a job interview I will compare myself to Word, sadly it seems to be our greatest competitor:

Employer: So why should we at Krause & Yanno Creative hire you over Microsoft Word?

Me: Because i'm human, capable of complex rational thought & can interprete lingual dialogue. Did I mention I am human?

Employer: Hmm, interesting. Well, I think the only way we can come to an effective employment resolution is to hold a spelling contest as a finale. Is this feasible for you?

Me: F*kk!

If microsoft magically disbled the ability to import graphics, Patrick ... then there'd be an awful lot of 'so-called' graphic designers out of a job ... hahahaha.

True, but MS Word is quite handy for school projects (not graphic design ones). It definitely has it's place, and the importing graphics is useful, just not when people try to use it for print.

As long as that place/use is dealing with text, it is a word processor after all. If customers give me the text to a certain job typed up in MS Word, I have no problem with that (might take a bit of reformatting though). Layout work, much different story.

You can't take out the import picture facility from word! What would happen to all the lovely clip art people insist they want in their adverts????

Me - "You can't use the picture of the chains in your ad"

Client - "Why not?"

Me - "It's not print quality, as even at 10mm x 10mm it looks pixelated"

Client - "Can you not enlarge it?"

Me - "No"

Client - "But it's our corporate identity!"

At this point I was biting my lip quite hard to stop from laughing at the idea of someone's "corporate identity" being made from clip art!!!

It must drive Adobe as nuts as designers when Microsoft releases Publisher. Couldn't Adobe release less expensive programs for home use that are compatable with their pro stuff? THAT would be cool, and give Adobe new product.

What's wrong with Microsoft Word? I use it all the time! The watermark effect is great for letterhead designs!
