Don't do it. They will catch you.
We don't condone pirating on this board. So you WILL NOT get any advice toward stealing yourself a copy.

What may happen is that if you use some cracked version from the net, the file might say something to the effect of 'This file was created in a beta version of InDesign and cannot be opened' blah blah blah. That's because a lot of pirated software on sharing programs is actually alpha/beta/whatever prerelease versions. To be honest, I've received file like this before in the shop where I couldn't open them and had to refuse them.
I won't preach ethics to you. I myself was the biggest pirate as a teenager, but I matured out of that, and my mentality was when I could afford it, I would buy it. Now I can afford it; my software is totally legit these days. If you're saavy on Ebay, you can use old purchased software to get cheaper upgrade paths to the current software and their respective suites.
A lot of businesses aren't quite legit, however. I'll confess that my work for example is using a pirated Quark....basically when we bought out another business in 2001 and received their Macintosh stuff (a 100mhz machine!?!), I was glad to be receiving their QuarkXPress but the graphic designer (daughter of the owner) never included the CD.....and when I asked her for it, she was a bit fidgety. I've asked mein fuhrer on several occasions to 'go legit,' and he delivered on the Adobe Suite, but never bothered to do Quark. I've often though about deleting Quark from the machine to snap his ass into gear when a customer did bring in Quark files, but I don't want the extra grief. When the day comes that the machine goes on the fritz and they have to reinstall their programs from the CD (we don't have Quark on CD), that'll punish them.
Another funny story while I'm on a roll (kind of similar to the situation), we don't have the full, regular version of Outlook (not Outlook Express) and years ago one customer needed us to open a file in Outlook (I don't remember why, something about it's compression or something). I told him we didn't have Outlook, and his response was 'Why?' My answer was that I didn't need it (I would have loved to tell him these days that I used Mozilla Thunderbird on the PC). He said 'Well I'm going to bring in Outlook and you're going to install it, okay?' At any other shop, I would have told him 'no' for obvious reasons, but I was being harrassed by the staff that day and was tired, so I just said 'Whatever.'
To get back on track though, if you're not capable of doing a job, then you're going to have to tell the customer that you're not equipped for it. Whenever that was the case in our own shop, the boss's son would say 'Well, I don't want to tell them that.' That's the stupid salesmen mentality. Of course you don't want to lose the money, but if you try and half-ass it or cut corners, it will come back to bite you in the butt in the end. Just like a few of my clients who tried to do their work from pirated software from the web.
Once again, I don't condone piracy and like I said, I'm not going to preach to you. But if you run into the situation that I just stated, then the publishing company may look down on you and that will hurt your business reputation.

and in addition, if legitimate Adobe customers find out that you ARE pirating a copy, they can report you to Adobe for prosecution.
