Hullo,
Was wondering if there is a quick and easy way to tell Quark to compensate for fanning when you've laid-out a large document in 11x17 spreads or if you manually have to shift the inner pages in towards the spine to get a consistent outside margin when the book is trimmed.
If it is a manual issue, does anyone know what the incriment would be to nudge each page in?
Thanks so much.

If at all possible I would leave that up to the printer, they will calculate that depending on the stock you use.

how is it bound anyway? perfect, stitched?

They are 11x17 spreads saddle stitched. I think that it is more or less up to us to compensate for them as we are just having them digitally printed from a PDF for the time being.

I see. can you tak some of the stock you will be using and fold up a sample and measure how much it creeps from the cover to the center spread when it is folded and stapled. and then just estimate and nudge the pages your self.

I think that would be the way too do it, measure the offset between the first page and the middle page then divide by the number of spreads and that should give the amount to nudge each page shouldn't it?
I just thought that maybe there was some one click button in quark that would do something like that. Thanks guys.

I don't use this but for $69 you can try an Xtension that does both Spreads and Gutter Creep.
(hmm gutter creep, I like the sound of that :] )

Don't just divide it and do all of them equal, because then the first and last page will be nudged too far. Just estimate and hope it looks good in the end. nobody will notice that kind of thing anyway!

Mickey - I guess that I was thinking that if you divided the number of spreads by the offset amount that you would have the incrimental amount to nudge them, ie. youd move the second page 2 nudges, etc.
I too very much like the sounds of this gutter creep, does it come in a line of cologne as well?

EN, check the number of licences. 10 licences is $300 for a mac too.
