Let's hear it, to upgrade or not. List your reasoning.

There are a ton of new features, from what I hear it is the most comprehensive update since the release of OSX. The search feature and Dashboard will be the coolest!

Any insights from a productivity/tech standpoint? Are they many major glitches that were fixed, or any improvements in compatibility with hardware?

Not suggesting Panther had a lot of glitches that I'm aware of...but still.

For a good article on Tiger

Nice article, Mickey...but I'm not convinced.
(Granted I'm on Jaguar at home, so it's a no-brainer to upgrade there.)

But I'm looking at from my workplace's perspective. Sure, I think dashboard, spotlight, RSS Safari, iChat AV and all the other "neat" improvements are nice. But is it really worth it for a production-oriented publishing company to upgrade?

Will Tiger work better with Adobe CS (or CS2) than Panther? Are there advantages in speed and server communication? Will really be that much more efficient that it will significantly improve productivity?

Let it sit a few weeks. Let the people who stand in line for it be the guinea pigs. Read the technotes or wait for the first update. Then buy it. Or not...

I refuse to upgrade yet with my workflow going so smoothly. I want to relish in the fact that I am having no issues lately, and no one calling my name every 5 seconds with some rediculously silly question like "there is no "go" button on my browser, how do I go to a website"!! Well DUH! HIT RETURN MORON :p

I'm with PD - wait a little while and see whats goin on with others - what issues are they having, if any. Then go from there.

I'm like you Delete...all the bells and whistles are nice but I'm all about the efficiency when it comes to my work. I can save the pretty stuff for home.

Yeah, agreed. I'm definitely going to wait a bit and see what happens.

I am waiting too. Can't think of a production reason to upgrade even though I work from home. The fun factor doesn't do it for me. Sheesh, I just finally upgraded to OSX last November. Everything is working fine for me...I have to have a good reason. If it isn't broken, I don't run out to fix it.

I am not fad oriented and I don't have to have the lastest and greatest. I prefer not to be a guinea pig when MY system is the test ground. I depend on it too much.

As for CS2 working better with Tiger, I think it'll make no difference. The release of CS2 at near the same time as tiger is a coincidence. The software update wasn't written to take advantage of any new stuff like core image, or widgets or anything else. There will probably be some eventual plug-ins or other things like that, but CS2 shouldn't warrant a $100 upgrade price tag.

I am all over it.. SPOTLIGHT is going to be used the fullest at my job because we can never find archived jobs. Specially when they go back from 1993. Our search software (isearch) is a little outdated, since it only finds jobs in OS 9.
Every new operating system that comes out makes your software run faster!
Maybe I am "high" but it seems that the computer loads up faster and the programs open up faster with OS upgrades. I am not a patient person when i start work and every second counts! specially when I load up about 1000 fonts to start!
Hopefully Sat. morning my home computer will be loaded and my work one by Monday!

good insights, guys! Based on Jason's input, and what I've gathered from talking to our IT guy, I seriously doubt we'll be upgrading here at work.

(At home is a different story, though! :D)

Definatley upgrade and start testing is what we always do, stay ontop of all new software etc., any updates will come, and then choose if we even want to update, some are really slowing down machines.
If everything works out on one or two then upgrade the whole area, if not we have the software from the last upgrade and just wait until things get fixed with more updates.
