Okay, so im running Quark 4.1 on a Mac with OS9. Here is my problem.
If I work in Quark for to long, I lose the ability to move the artboard with the "Option" key. It starts bugging out and jumping all over. I have trashed my preferences and rebooted, but it doesn't help.
I worked in Quark for 4 hours this morning, and had to reboot 3 times. Anyone know if this is a glitch, or a possible work around?
Any help mucho appreciated.

What kinda Mac are you on? How much memory? Are you running any other apps? Ihad this problem once in awhile when I was running OS9 so its not just you.
I think it has alot to do with memory and OS9. Not sure of any workaround for it tho. Lemme think for a few minutes and see what I come up with k.

mac os 9.2.1
640megs of memory
and I believe its a G4
the only other proggies im running, is PS 6.01, thats it, not alot of stuff going on, im stumped....
any help would be greatly appreciated.
I used to have this happen all the time in OS9, to the point where I just stopped using the option method. None of my solutions (mostly involving calling it a lot of bad words) helped. Sorry

did you up the amount of ram that quark will use.
Find the Quark Xpress icon. hit Command I or get info. then check this setting
Memory> Suggested size 32000, change that to like 80000 or 100000 that will give it 80 or 100 megs to run quark instead of 32 that always helped me a bit when running under 9...
(No need for this option in OSX)

^^ that was my next thought. I think its definately a memory issue so maybe you aren't allocating enough memory to Quark, like Mickey said, for what you are working on. It always happened to me when I was putting the pub together which is usually 64 pages.

I've run across that too, and believe it is a memory issue, with Quark occupying RAM the way PS does for undos.
Rather than 'Save', try a 'Save As'. This basically ends the previous document, and starts a new one. You may have to close the doc, or quit Quark, then relaunch and re-open.
I know Quark only allows one undo, but it may be storing some other type of cache of the images and actions it's done, and it can only hold so much.

thx for the suggestions guys, im going to be on here quite a bit asking completly stupid questions, im trying to land this art director position (they call it Team Leader) anyways im going to be troubleshooting 3 macs until they are all on the same page, right now you can only work on one of them because the other ones have font problems...its a freaking nightmare.
anyways, ill try out the allocated memory thing tomorrow, the wierd thing is, is that if I quit Quark and re-launch it, it still has that problem with moving on the artboard, the only way to fix it is to completly restart the computer, which is a huuuuuge pain in the arse.
oh yeah, who knows the shortcut to rebuild your desktop on the Mac?? i need i need!!

Rebuild Desktop (command(Apple Key)+option after startup chime)
Hold this key combo while the machine starts until the desktop loads and a dialog box is displayed asking if you wish to rebuild the desktop
click yes

D-Frag - what? font issues on a Mac? No way??? LMAO ;)
It's a pain getting them all up and running in a healthy manner but its possible! Just be sure YOU are the one that takes care of them. I find its easier to just say "Don't touch that!!!" to anyone who dares!! LMAO!!! JK of course :D
Quitting Quark and re-launching wouldn't solve the problem if it is memory related...once you do a full reboot that resets everything and your memory is minimal again...until you start working again...Once in awhile I have this problem in OSX with Q6 too...not as often as I got it with OS9....I gather its mostly bc I leave PS, Quark, Illy, MultiAd and my email all open at once for easy access and I only have 786mb of ram in my dually :D I like to live dangerously :p
