Now my laziness is going to cost me more time and money. I ordered business cards from Overnightprints.com, they came today, about 8 days after I ordered them. The front looks ok, a little darker than I wanted. Then I turned it over, and the back is supposed to have the same blue background color as the front, but it is noticeably different. I emailed them and I have 2 options...

send them 5-10 samples to thier review committee, where it takes up to 3 days for them to decide if my reprint request is valid.

or I can send them the cards back for a full refund. But I would have to pay for shipping them back, and I'm not sure if they refund the first shipping charges.

Not sure what I'm going to do. Probably call some local printers tomorrow and get some prices before I decide. Another thing that I learned the hard way is that gloss coating on a dark card means LOTS of obnoxious fingerprints, and every bend and muff on the edge is noticeable. But I'm probably just being anal about that.

Mike, you're right about the gloss... never on a business card.. that's my opinion anyways. It's just a waste of money.
Business Cards, that's my most frequent thing I order for customers.
I personally would have a hard time ordering from a fly by night company off the net.
I can't help you out with direction for printers.. unless you are in ontario, canada.. hehe

no problems with mine...they're functional...and for the price its not to bad...we only do gloss one side, and the nature of the beast is that color wont always match. ah well, I should have pmed you if you were going with an internet printer, at least you know me and know I'd do a reprint without seeing the product

I know color won't match the screen, but it should match front to back I would think?

If they're providing double-sided prints ... they should have made it clear as to whether each side was gloss. As someone pointed out ... many double-sided cards only have one gloss side. This is where I think the colour variation resides.

I attached a pic of my design, seems like no gloss would make it look rather dull? I made an alternative version with more white, which might look better with or without the gloss...what do you think?

Both sides are glossy

The back is like this...

I have had some limited success with VistaPrint, usually with family and friends that can't rub two nickles together for printing. If you don't mind having spam shoved up @$$ for a few weeks after ordering. I would have to agree with Kink on the gloss as well. Gloss sounds fun, all shiney and new but in some cases it's just not appropriate. (just my op)

there's a simple reason why business cards shouldn't be glossy:
(at least on both sides)

you can't write on them as easily. sweet design, though!

I use gotprint and they have an option of back with no UV good prices. There printers are calibrated kind of heavy so the ink it dark but it's not bad.

More and more Success stories coming out of vistaprint Steelcoast, I dont mean that as cocky, I'm just saying...on the GDF you have someone on the inside...ME! and I can take care of the people and do file prep/customer care as necessary. And I will also say if things will come out wrong.

Designer in Handcuffs...a book published by HOW magazine says you should keep printers such as Vista on your list because they are extremely low cost and budget friendly to the budget/nonprofit client.

To my GDF friends I am upfront about what to expect when they print with me. You may not get that with everyone that works here...but you will with me
