Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

I just can't figure out why reality tv is such a hot thing but I have been sucked in!! I used to watch a few "home" shows on HGTV and I was intriqued buy a show called "Trading Spaces." As a fan of that show I was surprised to hear that one of the "regular" carpenters on that show was hosting a new show on a ABC. Ty Pennington was moving to a show called "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and I just can not get enough of this show.
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is a show where a deserving family in need is given a dream home. Believe me when I tell you that these families are deserving. The most recent episode that I watched was about a gentleman who had been shot for no found reason by someone who came into his electronics store and went nuts. It wasn't bad enough that he had to experience the ultimate fear of having that happen but he also lost his sight. He was left completely blind! The design team came in and built this man and his family a gigantic house that was completely amazing. Walls were purposely textured so the blind gentleman would know where he is, a computer system was installed to help him with security and temperature control, wind chimes and water features were placed outside so he will know where he is in the yard and they even designed his kids rooms so he would be able to enjoy them with them. Amazing is not strong enough to describe what they did for him.
Now that was only one episode!! They do this EVERY show. It is amazing how much they do. The best part is they do it in SEVEN days! They get hundreds of voluteers to help them build these homes. Sears sponsors the show and supplies amazing amounts of appliances. Sears has even tied the show into their marketing campaigns. Ty Pennington is their number one spokesperson. He does tons of commercials for them and even released his own specialty line at the store. Obviously Sears is profiting from the publicity but what "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" does for devastated families is superbly outstanding.
The show is an emotional roller coaster and you even find yourself getting a bit jealous sometimes. The homes are truly EXTREME! Every show is EXTREME! Even though the design team is most likely coached to show emotion, you can see there are times that it truly gets to them. The stories are heartbreaking and sad but the homes are an amazing happy ending. If you want to see some amazing work done by truly passionate people, I recommend you watch this show! I know I am addicted.
