it's been just announced to me that i'm going on a business trip to Tokyo sometime in the next few weeks. needless to say i'm pretty excited since i've never been there but dreamed about going for a long time (and what a welcome break after flying to denver and back every few days for the past 3 weeks).

i've been long interested in japanese take on contemporary art and design and i intend to buy/take/xerox/steal/rip-out-of-small-children's-arms every local advert and design visual i could get my hands on. but some pointers from you, all-knowing design pros, would be welcome. if anybody knows must-go-see places or events, please share.

i'm only going for about 5-7 days and some of that time will be taken by meetings, so i don't want to waste a single minute. i'm gonna be given time "to wander about" (or so i've been told by our VP after she patiently waited for me to stop bouncing off the ceiling, tied me down to a chair and fed me a bottle of valium). wandering about is good but i want to wander in all the right places too. so any help from ya good folk is much appreciated.

I was told going to Mount Fuji is a must. It is a good days walk apparently. As for grabbing a bit of culture ... I suggest going naked, so you can carry as much stuff back as possible.

I am so envious of you ... grrr. Hell ... take me in your suitcase.

ain't nothing like hitching a plane ride in a baggage area ulysses.

fyi,
as my luck has it my baggage constantly ends up lost, usually sent to a different city (or country) from the one i'm going to. now, you're welcome to occupy my suitcase of course, but don't tell me i didn't warn ya.

I hear the food is great over there if you're brave. There's a section of Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential where he talks about the food in Tokyo, and it sounded great, but scary. As far as culture goes, I got nothin'

Have fun!!!
