For in-house Xerox DocuTech bw jobs, I usually create a PDF and place it on the server for our production department to print. When I create a .ps from Quark 5, the resulting distilled PDF gives me "there was an error in viewing this document". I click OK, and the doc opens just fine on my OS9 Mac. The production manager, on an XP Dell, cannot open the file. Has anyone experienced this? What I usually do to solve it right now is save it down to Quark 4 and create it there, with no problems.

A few specs may help:
G4 Quicksilver 866mhz, 1gig ram
Mac OS 9.2
Acrobat and Distiller 5.0
using Xante AW1200 laser printer as
profile to create post script file.

Jason, I recently had this problem with my resume at home last week on XP with Quark 5 and Distiller 5. Same error as you but I opened the file just fine. So wierd. I never did find a solution to the problem. When I brought it to work, It did the same thing - gave the error but opened fine. My specs at work are the same comp as you but OSX and Acrobat & Distiller 5.

I'm not sure what the solution to the error would be or why you received it. Hum..I'm not much help but atleast you know that you aren't alone...LOL :)

You may need to update Distiller 5... but I was told not to use 5 as there are many issues.

Apparantly, there's at least ONE issue w/Dist5. Maybe I'll go back to using Distiller 4.

D-Zine, I'm comorted to know that I'm not the only one who has this problem, but that doesn't stop me from prematurely mourning the loss of our show for the summer.

Waaaaa :( Shhh Jason!
2 episodes to go! Meet ya with the popcorn at 9pm! LOL!!

I have Distiller 6...don't use it. Had WAY too many issues with it and reverted back down to Distiller 4. Hey that was even the recommendation from the printer I run with.

I would also drop back to v4 for now, if I were you.

let me guess about the issues... continuous distilling, lost watched folders... could you list any others

No, I didn't have any of those problems ^^ mine were all font related. I would run the exact ps files though v4 with no problems. My printer advised me to stick with v4! LOL!

When I couldn't figure out what was up with v6, I called the press - they sent out there "PDF Guru" to me - he was at a loss as well.

My system works for me now..I'm stickin with it. Like Allen says..if it ain't broke, don't fix it :D

Yeah, I had my problems with 6 and fonts... It is quite a pain, but well worth the effort when I figured it out.
