Could you suggest a neutral color scheme with high contrast (i.e. easy to read) that will appeal to older men?

Thanks.

No. But try this (http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html).

Yeah, yeah, yeah, OK. I tried color schemer but wanted some ideas from a real person who knows what works and what doesn't or not as the case may be.

So ... what kind of work is this going to be for? What is the client brief?

Its a site for a pipe smokers club... a scheme to appeal to older (middle-aged) men.

And I thought that a neutral scheme would appeal (it's not as though they are teenagers who want something bright and stimulating (or dark and moody as the case may be)) plus a high contrast element to make it easy to read.

Thanx.

Personally, I tend to stem my ideas from any material the client already has, be it pictures of building and interior, or logo etc. This helps for consistancy.

If that is no help to you, I'd be thinking moderately saturated pastel colours ... blues, oranges, greens. Middle-age men don't expect boring dull colours as much as the next person, so I wouldn't outright dismiss using them.

Perhaps a turquois background with white text? It is hard to say, as I know nothing about the club, other than what you've told me.

Without playing around, I'd think maybe 005F75 or 00868B. It'd probably be best to develop the structure of the site first, as you can always tinker wit hcolours as you go along (unless as I say, you have specific material to go from).

It is hard offer any other advice ... you really need to play around a bit, and get a feel of what is appropriate for the club.

As long as you're using an external stylesheet, then changing colors site-wide is a snap, so you can build the entire site and decide which colors look best when you're done.

I'd think about the interiors and colours of an exclusive Golf Club, or an old smokey bar or a Victorian smoking room.

A Dark dark forest green (maybe with a deep burgundy red - almost black) Then for highlights, a touch of Gold. Not yellow, but antique gold or brass. Think natural colours, but polished.

No matter what colours you end up choosing, the darker colours are more masculine.

When i think of Gentlemen's clubs, i immediately think of dark brown leather chairs, and red wood tables... Maybe a beige/cream to give some contrast.

I think of fine cigars and cognac. To each his own I guess. :)

Speaking of color scheme generators, I thought that this was a nice one-

Here, I did this layout as a css positioning test page awhile back.

Check out the color scheme:
