Hi Every one!
After my post last night about as to why i don't like/appreciate/allow advertising on GDF, i thought you might be curious as to what GDF and our other sites look like on our end. So i have attached a picture of our computer rack and servers. Pretty neat stuff, labeled for your convienance.

It is kind of neat to know that when you guys are on GDF you area actually only six-eight feet from my desk, talk about neighbors coming over for a visit!

/emoticons/wink.gif THe outgoing I hardly ever get full bandwidth becasue of all the users hitting the sites, but nearly all the incoming bandwidth is all mine and it is so fast it is almost scary. I am hoping in a year or two having a DS3 (10mbit) in my office.

Hey Allen, do you know the specs of all the different lines? Like T3, etc. Isn't a T3 like 12 T1's? That would be so awesome. I'm still on 56K, but I should be getting DSL with a year (hopefully in the next few months).

T1 = 1megabit or 193KB per second each way at the same time. (kiloBYTE not kilobit). 56k (as in modem) is 5.6kilobits per second. Some people call a DS1 = two T1's (3megabit), a DS3 is roughly 10 T1's and so on.

Most DSL is inthe 500kb (kilobit), i havwe seen as low as 128kb and high as 1024kb DSL

Hmmm... I don't know as much as I thought I did. What is the difference between megabit/megabyte and kilobit/kilobyte? I know that 1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte.

a bit is a single bit (1) and a megabyte is a million bits a kilobit is one thousand bits and a kilobyte is one thousand bytes. A byte equals 8 bits (everything is rougly except a byte being 8 bits, Binary math notates a byte as being 8 (0's and 1's (on and off) are added and are based on 8 - 0,8,16,32,64,128,256,1024,2048,etc).

Do a google for the definition of each for a more complete answer than my blathering above.

PS a megabit is a million bits and a megabyte is a million bytes, bytes are 8 times larger than a bit (8 vs. 1)

Hi Benjo,
Yes it does get warm in the corner above the rack is a large diamter pull fan like you find in commercial kitchen's 1500cfm, even with that our elctrical bill in the summer times gets above $600.00 a month. Mostly from the A/C running so much. We may end up putting a wall unit in the office to offset the central air running so much, although with the fan it does stay tolerable. Last year in the summer we did not have the overhead fan, so we will see this year. I amy add one more 1500cfm fan in the ceiling, i think then it will pull enough to get id of al the heat. If I even get time I am going to design a plexiglass (removable) enclosure for that corner, if i do that it will reduce our cooling cost considerablly.

Yes everything i have except my mac is Dell and all the servers are PowerEdges. one 500SC, one 1400, one 2650 (rack) and one 4600 (the big one on the floor).

No Way Benjo...you went to Florida and they have mosquitos too...and hey we have several Waffle Houses here in me and Allen's area...LOL!! LARD!! hahhaa!!

The heat is the worst part but we have the ocean 15 minutes away if it gets too bad!! Atleast we live on the coast and still get some breezy days...of course sometimes its a 'heated breeze' but it's better than nothing!

Nahh really...Savannah is a beautiful city...I love it here. Been in GA all my life so even tho I HATE the heat...its no big deal, but I really don't think you ever get use to it!

you guys are talking about heat.....hahahaha, it was 92 yesterday, and will be in the 90's today.......yuuuuuuuck, which is really funny cuz the more I live here, the more I notice that we only have 2 seasons....winter & summer, it was in the 50's last week, cold & rainy. This week, highs in the 90's, not a cloud around, and it feels like summer already.

Trust me I prefer the hot weather on top you that you only need to have cloths for Winter (which to me is fall 52°F) and Summer. I need to carry clothing for Winter, Fall, Spring, Summer. We can switch ...any body?

$hit you guys got it easy. I live in Iowa, and its like in the 20's right now. At this time of year the highest the temp gets is like 50. A few months ago the temp got to like -20 with the wind chill. </div>
Its crazy cuz in the summer it can get up to100 degrees. And with a lot of humidity, that feels like 120. The weather in Iowa sucks, its too extreme. So, I envy you guys. </div>

I hear ya guber, I was stationed in Oklahoma and the tempurature between night and day was extremem, during the day it was so hot and dry your sweat evaporated as soon as it cam out of your skin and then at night it sometimes got near freezing. I have seen snow in April out there as well. Although the Georgia wather is mostly humid (90+ percent most of the time) I still wouldn't trade it for anything, except for possible hiwaaian weather, now that would be perfection.
