Well, as large as this graphic design industry is...there's a lot of software out.

I was curious if anyone had any pointers to what a good beginning software would be for character design, or what you started with? Maya and Lightwave look a little advanced for me, unless there's features I'm missing. But I'd rather start with something simple, since I'm rather young, and even younger to 3d graphics.

The 3d software 'Poser' is good for beginners, haven’t used it really but vie seen what it can do and it looks fairly easy. It has models to work with which you can tweak with ect. I grew up on 3d Max, and a CD worth of tutorials... taught me a lot. Once you know the basic principles you will slowly get your head around it.

If you are just going to do character design, zbrush is very good and easy to learn . If you want to animate it, you will have to bring it into another 3d program (look in the thread that was previously given).
