I am an Illustrator gal and use the pen tool. But the client wants something done in Photoshop (see attached check mark as an example). I don't usually draw in Photoshop. Can anyone tell me how I can draw in Photoshop in a similar manner as using the pen tool in Illustrator? I tried drawing with the pen tool in Photoshop, but I can't figure out how to fill in the shape or create a stroke. Maybe I'm just using the wrong tool?

helllpppppp....

Why don't you draw the graphic in Illustrator, save it as an .eps file then open it up in photoshop?

lol...... thats what i would do to

Just tell them you drew it in photoshop.

Most non designers have not one clue the difference anyway.

I tend to stay as far away from photoshop as possible also. Except for its intended purpose... photography manipulation.

color issues keep coming up. if i draw it , shade it in AI and open it in PS, the colors aren't the same. so, i guess, maybe i should try drawing the shape in ai and coloring it in PS? honestly, i have no idea how people have the patience to draw in ps. lol!

i'm doing it in ps because client wants to be able to tweak certain things in ps file, so, if i do the actual drawings in ai, will this foil their plan?

oh, and they also want each element of the icon in different layers (window seperate from the house, seperate from the roof, etc). so how should I do this if I'm drawing it in AI and opening in PS? just save each layer as a seperate ai eps and then open them one at a time in PS and reassemble into one icon? I can't imagine...if there is an easier way to do this, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

There might be way to recover individual layers in photoshop from illustrator.

I tend to work with one or two layers in illy so i can't tell you about that one.

For the color issues have you tried selecting the whole illustration and using color adjustments such as; levels, color, etc?

usually that works when those promblems arise.

I rarely work in multiple layers in Illustrator as well, but isn't the recent CS/CS2 releases supposed to retain things like layers, etc? Worth a try.

Make sure your color profiles match in both programs if the colors are looking differently. Also, I noticed whenever I copied over my digitally inked drawings from Illustrator to Photoshop, the black lines was slightly more gray. I realized that Photoshop's default black had different values than Illustrator's default black, so I made a custom black swatch in Illustrator with the appropriate settings, and problem solved.

This is simple:

-Open PS, create your new file.

-Hit "P" start drawing your shape. Its color will be the forefround color in your objects palette.

-To change the color, click on the color icon in the layer that the shape is representing.

-To edit move the points, hold down the "CTRL" key while still in the pen mode.

-To Add points, just hover over the shape and click on the desired location.

-To get other pen tools, just click on the "Pen" icon in the objects palette and hold it there, until the pen tool bar pops up. From there you can select whatever pen you wish to use.

*if need more specific help, just "PM" me.
