Since there are a growing number of 3d artist joining the boards I thought it would be a good idea to have a separate showcase section for 3d. So come one come all 3d artists and show your stuff.

Here's a pet peeve of mine about 3D CG movie cars. How many times these days do we see the ol' "transformer" trick where an ordinary vehicle transforms into a high tech dream machine? It's a cliche now, right? I mean, even parodied a bit in 'The Incredibles'.
Well, I'm kinda wondering how long then film makers can expect to put any 'belief' into this trick. Will it look as hokey ten years from now to future audiences as, oh... I dunno know, the old 'Star Trek' transporter beam effect would seem to audiences today? (Actually, if you ask me, it looks hokey today)
I don't mind so much being asked to suspend belief as part of an audience viewing experience-- I just feel with all the effects driven stuff out there that break at the slightest touch of real analysis, that I'm really being asked to completely suspend my intelligence too. It's no longer special, I'm no longer effected.

This model of ANGELINA JOLIE was done by my Buddy Raymond Moonen a.k.a Rainman.
What makes this incredible is that it was done in Swift3d. Though it was quite the task, it really shows how you can push this little application.
Model stats:
polygons: 35.354
vertices: 18.219
filesize: 4.12 MB
number of bitmaps used: 3 (1 for the face, 1 for the hair and one for the eyes)
model time: lost track of that

Hi, we just finished a new project, but it's way to large to put the images here. You can visit it at our web site. It's a series of 3D renderings and animations of the new Atlantis Resort hotel condo (www.archiform3d.com/portfolios-architectural-renderings-video-website/06-atlantis-3d-presentation.htm).
There are also some animations you can download, but I warn you now - they are HUGE.

Hey CG Man,
Question about the texturing to your buildings. I'm assuming you just used a NURBS object and then textured it with a map you created in photoshop and then placed on the reflection attribute? I'm sure it's a bit different from Maya but just thought I'd ask. Also any other renders of the city?
CG Man
06-27-2006, 10:56 PM
I created the building with a Sub D object their like nurbs but you can select individual poygons just like a poly object I used the texture map I made in photoshop again for the reflection. Theirs more of the city on my website.

as you can see the chord is missing as I found that hard to do. I'm fairly new to 3D so still going uphill the learning curve. Strata is good for its interface but is still lacking in some departments, my opinion mind you which doesn't account to much considering my little experience in the 3D world.

Firstly good job, secondly: I use Max but may have a suggesestion for your chord (bit messy but I still have a lot of work to do before I can give a more elegant solution...plus I don't know the functionality of Strata)...
1) I assume you can create a helix and control it's parameters such that in in the x and y axis it traces a circle and in the z axis able to move a short distance in a straight line. This would be one section of lots of similar sections following a path
2) I assume that you are able to group two objects and rotate them around a common centre
3) If you control carefully enough the start and end position of your helix (tracing one and only one full circle would suffice here) then you can duplicate these helix's by rotating about the group centre and have them follow what ever path you like by adjusting the position of your dummy object. You then have to connect em all up after you finish and complete the loft
