I am trying to open a large (31Mb) Quark 4 document in Quark 5. There are about 10 pages in this document with numerous (and I mean *numerous*) image placements on each page - though they are for the most part the same images on each page (multiple versions of the same page for flyers going into different newspapers for various dealers).

Anyhow... when I open the document in Quark 5, it seems as though it is going through each image placement one by one, over and over again, as though the program is double-checking each image's whereabouts on my system, however it is not doing it just once, it is doing it over, and over again. Sometimes for 10 to 15 minutes. While this is happening, I cannot take any action in Quark. I cannot access menus, use keyboard shortcuts or anything. Eventually I get an "Out of Memory (-108)" message and Quark crashes.

However, the file opens easily and quickly in Quark 4.

I am using a G5 dual 2Gb with the latest version of OS X Panther, running Quark 5 in Classic Mode.

Any ideas? Anybody run into this problem before? Thanks...

I have never seen that.. I am sure you did all steps... Trash Preferences... Reinstall...
Then Try this. Open in Quark6 and save down or
Move the images so they are all missing or
Check your quark setup and set auto pic import to off or no never... You get the idea. Other than that its a mystery. Good Luck

If only I had Quark 6...

I deleted all the images, and was able to open the file then, did my text changes, and resaved as a Quark 5 document. I then moved the images back, tried opening again and BAM... same thing. Wierd. Auto import is already shut off.

Oddness. I am perplexed.

Coolness. Glad to here that.
Come to think of it might be a corrupt image?
