One of the reasons I thought it would be a good idea for a photography section is to get a look at everybodys shots. So I'll start it off with some pics that I actually did up in the darkrooom last friday

Roo-1,
love the chair image. Very emotive. The chair, which seems to be in good shape, is just waiting for the next person to support.
Here's a chair image. Another shot from the dining room. Just playing around here. Think I need another element or object to add visual interest though (cat shot comnig soon):

Ok, here is one that we actually used for promotional work for our business. It was when I was playing around and trying to get cool "eye" shots of some of the cats. I was actually surprised how close I was able to get to some of them. Of course the rest of them moved around too damn much.
This one was by far the coolest one I got...

Took this a few years ago in Sri Lanka at a Buddhist Temple on Adams Peak, it took me quite a few hours to get to the top but managed it for sunrise...
The experience there was surreal, over 600 Sri Lankans trekking for hours just to see it. Made a few friends there too on the journey, and still keep in touch with them
Have it on my wall and it is massive, well over 6ft long.
Whoops need to log on to see it, so here is a smaller copy...

It is a picture of a small water fall that Morea and I saw while we were hiking this past weekend. I put it on the night setting to try to get the water part to show better. i agree. Excellent shots. You've really captured the mood in each of the shots, esp. the last one, the gradated tones and the contrasting texture of the water and the sky are just beautiful. I'd be interested what filters you used and what camera.
plasticboy
11-06-2005, 02:28 AM
Thanks for your comments all!
Olympus c4000 for the first and second pics and Canon Rebel for the last one. Olympus uses a built-in lens. (it's a cheap camera yes ) . For Canon I usually use ultra-wide (EF 16-35mm f/2.8L) lenses and Standard 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6, which are very handy for a low light conditions .
Filters are NiK Color effect 2.0 (http://www.nikmultimedia.com/colorefexpro/usa/entry.php) and i can't live without them.
so no filters? UV or CPL?
plasticboy
11-06-2005, 02:38 AM
so no filters? UV or CPL?
sorry , took me sometime to type specs lol
i have to say, you got good skies, usually i don't photograph outdoors without UV or a circular polariser. The software must be alright, i might check it out.
plasticboy
11-07-2005, 01:41 AM
The software isn't the cheapest one on the market tho. Full pack of filters goes for $300+ , I own a standard edition that includes about 20 photographic filters and it cost me $90 .
Yeh , forgot to say about ICorrect Edit Lab for photoshop. It's intended to do a color /contrast correction . It's fully automatic and basically all you need to do is to point on the part of the picture you want to be fixed.

well maybe not to someone that is not from here but that is the usually calm bay the day before hurricane Dennis came through town. but thats why i didn't use that one. & its hard to capture 50+ MPH winds but that whats in the other.
*edit* on the beach pic there is normally about 20 yards of beach. the tide is really high.

Yeah, well I am not from there - I live in East-Central Minnesota, We may have 10,000 lakes, but no beach like that, and we never get waves or weather like that around here because of them. Instead we have swamps and misquitos - hmm why do I live here again?

So this is my introduction... my name is Chris McCorkle. I live in Savannah GA in the U.S.
I have four main photography vices right now: wide angle portraiture, wide angle landscape, wide angle still life, and wide aperture portraiture.
These are apparent below!

One nightshift, I noticed the fullmoon light pouring through the clouds in a very beautiful fashion, and these two pictures are the result of that. I went a little overboard with the exposure time, so the pics are noisy in some areas. Anyway, I think they are quite forceful, thanks to digital post-editing :), I introduced some severe glow to the moonlight, it was not nearly as bright to the eye, in fact, anything appeared much darker than it is here, but it seems to work... The first picture is currently my desktop wallpaper...

Hi Chris: I appreciate your suggestions, but I am not a professional, so if you think that you have the means of improving my pics, be my guest. But I do not intend to push this to an extreme. Besides, taking several pictures of that scene would have been impossible, due to the rather rapid movement of the clouds (first picture illustrates that in some areas)...
Just a word about your images, which look pretty nice indeed (your girlfriend on the third one? Reminds me a little bit of my ex-girlfriend ;) ): I noticed the dark edges of the pictures (a problem that seems to come with wide-angle shooting). I suggest that you mask them out to make the pictures look more natural.

Thanks for your nice words! But don't you think, since there's naturally a vignette due to my lens, that keeping them there would be the more natural choice? There's nothing natural about wide angles... especially rectilinear ones.
The closest-to-natural lens out there would be the 50mm on a full frame sensor or the 30mm± on an APS-C sensor.
And yes... that's my girl.

It's..ehm..not sure what it's called in English, but I translated the word I use for it and it turned out to be "awning". Anyway, it's the stuff that you have rolled up over the windows on a house, which you "roll out" when you want shadow. Haha, damn that was a lousy way to explain it.
