Photo Contest, or something like that

Alright. This is something I've been thinking about for awhile (thanks to petchy for dragging it out of the dungeon of my mind) I propose a monthly photo contest........assignment, ya I like assignment better. A monthly photo assignment with a specific topic that we could all submit entries to and vote on. I have some web space available that we could post the entry that recieved the most votes to, and keep a running tab of past and present A+ assignments, as well as post up-coming assignment topics/themes.

Let me know what you guys think about this. I'd also like to hear about any topics/theme ideas that anybody has. I was thinking since it was already the 18th we could start it of with: SELF PORTRAITS.

great idea! i think we should also be able to only submit one photo instead of having everyone bombarding the contest with multiple photos. when would be the due dates for each month?

I like the idea, but think I will have to pass on the self portraits. :D

why morea? it could be artsy, abstract. Self portrait doesn't necessarily mean taking a picture of yourself posing in the mirror.

Portions of me in photographs are certainly not winning entries in ANY kind of contest!

for a "creative" type, sometimes I catch myself thinking inside the box more than I should. Abstract, you say... hmm...

are you thinking of any restrictions other than a single entry? dimensions, file size, etc? Allowing touch up work at all? Or just straight photos?

I always catch myself thinking inside the box. Yesterday I was scanning a bunch of magazine articles I've layed out for my portfolio becuz i don't have the original files and it was taking forever and the scans looked like crap. So finally i thought why not lay a bunch of magazines spread out and then plop one open in the middle to show a particle article and take pictures of the articles like that. BRILLIANT!!! I rule! JK..

I think neballer needs to come back in here and help with these rules. i would think that you'd use the camera to to all the work, maybe some minor tweeking/color adjustments in photoshop or switching to BW maybe. what do "you" think neballer?

Oooh I like doing self portraits... not sure why... Half of my final project for my B&W photo class was self ports.

Don't worry it's like Maxim. If you don't know Maxim, there guys magazine that talk about beer/sex/games/fashion/ for guys. There's always a lot of ladies in string bikinis or naked covering their privates.

so am i, actually by brother got a subscription for me a few years back for my christmas or something. i'd skim through them, read the jokes and sometimes there was something interesting to look at..(lol). I actually just through away 2 years worth. i was gonna sell them on ebay but they go for peanuts on there.

I definetly agree with the one picture thing. As for due date? a week before the end of the month? That way we can have a week to vote. Anybody have any Ideas on how that might work...voting that is? I was thinking PM.

i dont think we have the "poll" option available anymore do we?? if so then we could make one post for the entries, and a poll for the voting after all the entrees are submitted. also a self portrait works for me

Yess, yess, yesssss! great stuff thanks for starting this! self portrait sounds good - toyed with just entering my avatar pic as i'm quite happy with that (i don't look as much of a mess as i usually do!) but that wouldn't be a challenge now would it! gonna have to go and snap away again!

one pic per person i think is a must otherwise we will just end up all snowed under! a poll would be good to determine the "winner" - is there not a poll option then?
