The kid wanted a dragon on his car, so I'm obilging him. i don't do THAT many vehicles, so...thought I'd get some feedback.http://ih2.com/b/car.jpg

I dig the design. (Dragons aren't my style, but to each his (or her) own.) But I'm not sure I would've gone with the white fills. I might have been inclined to make it all black with "hollow" areas where the white is now. Or perhaps an identical white layer underneath for a shadow effect.
If the client was happy, though, that's all that matters. Well done!
When's he getting this tatooed on his bicept/calf/back?
05-20-2005, 05:23 PM
Is there anything going on the other side of the car or on the hood?
05-20-2005, 05:29 PM
Yeah, the other side is identical, reversed. He wanted something on the hood but I had no ideas.
That duplicate layer and in black looks pretty cool.
05-20-2005, 05:34 PM
nice Key! I luv dragons. Perhaps on the hood you can have a front view of the dragon, or have the head on the hood and the wings on each side of the car...might be hard to do that though, but then again i've never done graphics for cars before.
05-20-2005, 05:35 PM
Yeah, that looks nice . . .
05-20-2005, 05:38 PM
Could you have something on the hood that tied the dragon on either side together?
Maybe some flames going from each dragons mouth and meeting on the middle of the hood.
Although I suppose flames on cars are like swooshes on logos...
05-20-2005, 05:40 PM
well, if it's dragons you want, you can't ask for better than that!
i definately prefer the 2nd version posted...but what about a deeper shade of the same blue as the car? oooo...and opalescent, too...
is this vinyl?
05-20-2005, 05:47 PM
Hootat!!! Nice dragon Key! That's pretty cool!
Not sure what to tell you about the hood. I really know nothing about vehicle graphics...I just know that that ^^ dragon is awesome.
05-20-2005, 05:51 PM
sweet work, Keyare. That dragon is excellent!
05-20-2005, 05:56 PM
...but what about a deeper shade of the same blue as the car? oooo...and opalescent, too...
05-20-2005, 06:46 PM
Yep - Black is not an option durn it. They suggested gold, but Ewwww, it looks gross (to me) Dark blue rocks.
05-20-2005, 07:15 PM
Ooooo that last one is awesome - with the fire and the color change.
05-20-2005, 07:28 PM
That ... is some serious dragon business. Very nice job.
05-20-2005, 07:45 PM
I definately dig the blue, but I'm still not feelin the white.
I think it might just be too flat for me. Maybe if there was some shading?
05-20-2005, 08:19 PM
The blue is much nicer! diggin the fire too!
05-20-2005, 08:26 PM
Shading. ok. This is 2 more colours! ouch!
05-20-2005, 08:31 PM
Looks great, I think I liked the single colour better though.
05-20-2005, 08:37 PM
just blue. no white, no nothin'.
05-20-2005, 08:54 PM
I think there's too much car showing through. I don't see a lot of ricers but from looking off of need for speed and such, usually it seems that a graphic will take a good portion of space. I.E. don't have a pulled back view of the dragon like you have now, have the dragon look like it's scrunched in under the windows and between the tires and is trying to claw and blast it's way out.
05-20-2005, 09:24 PM
Whoo... I'd love to but I'd have to draw it again from scratch. I'm sure getting mixed messages, "More shading, straight blue..etc.."
Why does NO ONE like the white?
the bottom right one is the way the vehicle guys suggested (BLAAAH!)
05-21-2005, 01:28 AM
i'd rather just have a dragon.
Mixed messages on a critique! LOL
I like the dragon, think he needs a different car.
05-21-2005, 03:06 AM
Well, a few more ideas for the pot.
I like the top right one, but I think it would be better if the white was silver or light gray. I don't know why I don't like the white. I think it just stands out too much.
The top left one might look good if you added the black shading, but no white.
That bottom right is just disgusting.
05-21-2005, 05:01 AM
The 2nd one blue and white is the best, the only thing that makes it not too cool is that the picture is too flat, it will look better if the picture was like airbrush style, which will be a chalenge to draw.(And also if you have the time to draw)
I'll post this ref site for you to exam. http://www.airbrush.com.au/custompainting/index.shtml
Cheers and hope you get something cool.
05-21-2005, 05:05 AM
And just to add to this thread, this site is a good place to learn Vehicle graphic.
Keyare hope you get some ideas from here too.
05-21-2005, 05:27 AM
Sadly, This is strictly vinyl. If airbrush were an option, it'd be super.
This is the final file that is going:
...and now of course, the vector is available on istockphoto.com (Blatant ad, sorry, i'm such a ho)
05-21-2005, 05:32 AM
has some cool cars, digitally created, but very little in the way of vehicle graphics.
05-21-2005, 05:42 AM
How about a airbrush style drawing on the vinyl.
05-21-2005, 11:20 AM
I dig it. Not sure I like the final with the yellow but clients are the ones that have to be happy. I think the hood would over do the whole thing.
I agree with Kool that it needs a different car! LOL! I also dig the black and red one but just not on that blue car.
Great work Key. I can't wait to see actual photos of the finshed product.
05-21-2005, 12:04 PM
I like the final. The addition of the gold sets it off a little more. Be sure to take pics and show us when it done k! I wanna see! :)
05-21-2005, 12:22 PM
I had no idea you could get vector images from istockphoto... you learn something new every day!
05-21-2005, 01:14 PM
I think you should upsell the client and do a full 4-color shrink-wrap graphic (windows and all).
But that's project for another time, lol. Nice job on the final!
Post it up once the vinyl gets applied to the car.
the middle left and top right are winners... glad to see you know what your doing, lol j/k
The white is working very successfully in terms of design. It makes that design POP right out. The monochromatic appeal is working much better... stick with it.
I like the dragon, think he needs a different car.
Off course it needs another car - a neon does not deserve that astounding piece of work,lol- ( a neon was my first car... so i can be prejudice- but no offense current owners).
actually come to think of it... i think that car is the exact color and model i owned - 2000? If not the same model then the same color i'm pretty sure.
