i tried to explain this to two of my instructors at the end of the spring semester, but neither quite understood what i was talking about.

long and short for me will be an understanding of the same areas as described in the article.

AS: computer networking

This is a great article and takes a lot to analyze our industry to come up with this conclusion but it could not be closer to the truth.

We are at the forefront of business and need to understand the industries we work for to enhance our value as professionals.

Actually I plan on going back to school for an MBA in about 2-3 years cause I've seen this a while ago.

Great read!

Well the Design Management Institute (http://www.dmi.org) has helped establish a number of Design Management courses which grant an MPS (Masters of Professional Services) and is somewhat similar to an MBA in many regards.

I'm VERY interested in this program and it caters to professionals. There is one right here in NYC at Pratt university and it meets every other Sat. & Sun. so as to accommodate professionals in the biz.

Here is a list of some of the modules:

Leadership Behavioral Simulation, Leadership and Team Building, Design Management, Strategic Technology, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Spring, Management Communication, Advertising and Promotion, Managing Innovation and Change, International Environment of Business, etc.

VERY handy! Hopefully in the coming years, more designers will opt for similar programs after they obtain their 4 year degrees just as business grads began to pursue MBAs after their 4 year degrees. With the world changing so fast and the design needs of the marketplace changing just as rapidly, we have to re-think design education in order to keep pace with those needs.

No problem. I'm happy to have helped pass the information on to others. Please share the info!

I confronted many of these types of issues at my last agency and wished that I had learned more about design management in college. Although the program I graduated from was great, you can only pack so much into 4 years. This is a great option for those who wish to grow successful design startups or ascend to the AD/CD level in either an agency or corporation.

No problem! I had thought about going back for my MBA years ago but felt that the MBA programs out there were more geared to corporate management, consulting, finance and other areas but not really relevant to someone who wanted to run and grow a design firm or corporate communications department.

The Design Management program is perfect!

Look it over and share your thoughts. I'd love to hear them!
