Has anyone dealt with this issue before? We are switching from Corel to Illustrator, and have to convert hundreds of files. After exporting a file from Corel as .ai and then opening it in Illustrator, text issues occur. When you click on a paragraph of text, each line of text appears in its own text box. Worse yet, text on a curve converts to individual letter text boxes, so that text will have to be entirely deleted, retyped, and realigned to the path again. It would save us a lot of time and effort if we could convert each Corel file easily. Any ideas out there? (Sigh! I'm going to miss Corel - I've worked in both Illustrator and Corel over the years, and really prefer Corel - Illustrator is so much "clunkier").

Thanks.

Have you tried saving the Corel files as CorelDraw version 8 files and opening these DIRECTLY into AI CS? I've tried that here and all the text, including the fit to path stuff, came through fine.

AI CS can open up to CorelDraw 10, but I found that doing this caused font size errors to come in.

Hi, and thanks, Broacher!

I tried your suggestion, and except for the fit to path text, which is actually minimal, the text came in great after converting to Corel 8 and opening in Illustrator CS. (Our biggest issue was when clicking on a paragraph of text, each line of text appears in its own text box - your suggestion has provided the solution).

Thanks again!

I'm having similar problems when I go from Illustrator to DRAW. Basically all the text that comes through as outlines open in DRAW but without closed pathes, so you have to manually close all the letters.
